Everything I said (except for questions about her life) was met with a very justified blank look of confusion on her behalf, and after dinner we went for a drive and I decided that even if writing and /lit/ would never love me back, loving them was more interesting than loving a woman. And I began to reflect on the octopus, and how maybe one day after Domini Simiae, they would emerge from the oceans which their eight prehensile appendages which made redundancies of the human hand, and they would be able to change their skin to look like anything, like dazzling patterns of emotional mutation, and under the mistaken impression that they reproduce like fish, I imagined that they wouldn't even have to pretend to like each other to continue the process of evolution. And the amorphous nature of their bodies was the perfect solution to the challenges of space flight and terraforming.

And so I looked at her and thought about the beauty of that notion. We might be doomed to failure, but life would go on, better and more pure than we could ever do it. But I stutter around cute girls and so instead she dropped me off and we hugged and I sent her a rambling text message apologizing for my existence and she accepted my apology very gracefully and we did not speak again.
