Also, the reason I made this general was because I casually checked a coom book suggested on /sffg/, then finding it much better than what I originally thought.

But here's my suggestions. Coomlit I enjoyed

Celestine Chronicles by Cebelius is actually a pretty good read. one of the best if not best harems fantasies I have read.
It really justifies well why everyone wants to bounce on the MC's dick. I like how everyone has their own selfish motives when it comes to the MC, but the main girls really pull their weight to help the MC on his quest without really abandoning their own personal goals. The main girls have their own personality that goes further than wanting to ride MC's cock.
I also really like the MC in this one. He is not complete gary stu, writer gave some time for his character development which is sadly rare in harem fantasy. He has no problem in having casual sex, but he is far more normal than what you would expect from MC in monster girl harem fantasy. He does not fuck every single girl he comes across and times have problems when it comes to some monster girls anatomy.

Ancient Dreams by Benjamin Medrano. This series was very well written and it made me read more of Benjamin Medrano but nothing he made before or after has been quite as good.
This is actually a lesbian harem fantasy. If that is not a turn off for you this series offers great characters and good mystery. This series starts off with good mystery where we learn that the main character used to be a being of notable power but got tricked and trapped into a magic gem where her power and memories were chipped away little by little over the course of millennia. By dumb luck the gem got fused with a magic tree and the MC came back to life as a dungeon. Yes this is a "Protagonist is a Dungeon" sub genre of litrpg without most litrpg elements. Anyway characters hangs around in her dungeon as a dryad with sexy elf girls while over the course of the series learning what she used to be and what has happened to the world during her dormancy.

It's not even REMOTELY close to gender parity. Female-targeted coomlit is nearly SEVENTY PERCENT of the entire literature market, that is of every genre excluding textbooks, by market volume. Literally more than half the books published, self published, sold, rented, left at a bus stop, given away for free, are coomlit for women.

Male targeted coomlit on the other hand might rate a single digit percentage, and of that, the vast majority is self published or straight up given away for free.

Anything written in languages other than English? Might be a good way to practice languages, with its easy prose and... entertainment value.

Pretty much any modern eReader will do just fine. I went with kindle but ended up pirating all my books anyways. Bookmark a few on Amazon and wait for one to go on sale. Also don't worry about storage unless you're going to read many PDFs. 4gb will hold several hundred books. Again on PDFs: many eReaders are too small for you to comfortably see text. Are the Gor books worth reading if I want to get into writing erotica?

I've already had an idea for a small short story (noblewoman from earth goes to gor, gets stopped by slavers who ask to see her papers, tie her up while going through her things, tell her it's standard procedure, she grudgingly goes along with it, they find her papers and burn them, she panics and struggles after realizing her life is over and she went from being a respected noble to just another faceless kajira) but idk if it's worth it to read the actual books to get a better feel for the setting and how to write erotica more generally. I've tried before but it just feels so dated, which is funny because the guy who introduced me to it was pushing 50 so maybe it's just a boomer book

Don't take this bad, but I'm seeing a flaw I've seen in other modern litrpg/haremfantasy/coomlit: excessive horny characters right from the start, zero character development and zero investment in the plot.
Also, no respect for the original lore (just like modern GW lol). I mean, techpriest jerking off in that situation has completely broken my suspension of disbelief.
If you're writing for eventually selling or publishing online, consider investing in the plot and in the characters.
Ask yourself this: if I remove all the sex and smuttiness, is it still worth reading?
If the answer is yes, you're on a good path.

It might be a good idea to read at least one of them if you want to get a feel for the setting. A lot of them aren't that long and quite easy reads. But I don't know if they'll help you get better at writing erotica. There wasn't even that much erotica in the ones I've read apart from a few scenes and the implications of the overall setting. I've only read the first few though, I've heard they get more smutty (and more repetitive and bad) in the later books.

Merlin and Falstaff , both written by Robert Nye can be, at least partially counted as coomliterature due to frequent, long and very graphic sex scenes. Perversity aside, they are both quite enjoyable pastiches of historical novels.

is the full story. the characters don't immediately start off horny, and the ones that are extremely horny are that way because of the warp corrupting them.
