Do you ever hit "the wall" when reading?

Sometimes, no matter how much I'm enjoying whatever I'm reading, reading suddenly becomes uninteresting and I feel like I need to stop and do something else for a while.

>> No.1951888

That's because you actually do need to do something else. You can only read for so long before it becomes unhealthy

>> No.1951886

This happens to me sometimes. Of course, it also happens with everything else that I do with my spare time, but it seems to happen the least with reading.

Perhaps that's why I love reading so much.

>> No.1951889

Stop reading garbage.

>> No.1952063

This is constant for me. I can only read 5-6 pages at a time before I lose concentration.

>> No.1952093

It happens all the time. And almost every time, it doesn't eve get interesting again after a time. I just get "tired" of the book by reading like 10-15% of it... and then it becomes boring crap.
Idk why...

How do you ever finish a book? What are you doing on a book board?

>> No.1952129

>>1952103
I have moments where I can read a lot. It just depends on the book that I read. And I'm on /lit/ because I find the discussion much more interesting than what gets talked about on other boards.

>> No.1952168

Happens with all my hobbies at some point. Then I just switch to another hobby until I get bored of that one. Switching back makes the previous hobby feel all sorts of fresh and nice. Except fapping.

I never get bored of that.

>> No.1952188

>>1952168
Yeah but I don't think he was talking about that.

I still have some books that I can read all day and at the end of a day feel even more interested than at the begging. It's just that sometimes you get all inspired and stuff --and suddenly, you stop liking it -.-

>> No.1952221

it happens, but just with some books

>> No.1952234

Gotta take a break every while when reading, OP. That's normal. I do it on purpose with good books so that I don't start loosing details, and it gives you time to brood - I usualy stop after what I'd consider an important moment in the book.

>> No.1952241

I can sometimes read for a month straight, then read nothing for weeks. I get through a remarkable amount of books though when I am in a so called reading phase so its not too bad.

>> No.1952259

OP that means that you don't actually like literature you only read it because you imagine yourself as an intellectual. I suggest you come to terms with being an unwashed plebeian so you won't have to waste your time pretending you're not.

Kidding? Being impressed by books would mean I'm dumb enough to enjoy them and admire some random author, while I'm actually a lot smarter than them.

I wish this would be the last post on /lit/

I mean I wish /lit/ would be deleted right now, and every time someone tried to come back they would see that and realize that they were never as intelligent or cultured as they thought.

Because after hearing all this "smart people read books" I actually believed they're interesting. But my expectations were wrong.

Well, if "God Hates Us All" is an "intellectual" book then idk...

Yeah. The wall disappears over the last 100 pages or so, though. 200 if the book is at least 600 pages.

Is there any research about things like this or something? :/

research about add? yeah, plenty.

The problem isn't in ADD. As I've already said, there are books that I can read all day and feel exactly the same. But it's different with other books.

Infinite Jest. I really need to change my focus often to keep my interest up.

250 pages in, and I have read The Stranger, Permutation City, Siddhartha, and am starting on The Idiot as well as a series of enlightening essays on the media by Roland Barthes titled Mythologies.

That one, over there. Can't you see it? There's a guy with a Stetson leaning on it. Hang on a minute, that man has got his penis out, whipping it back and forth, back and forth. Ok, maybe look for a different server.
