He actually has books in his apartment and every time I watch the movie I wonder what they're about. Travis certainly wasn't the intellectual kind so I'd guess he would read some basic westerns and Tex comics since he seems to like the cowboy aesthetics, perhaps some books on the Vietnam war since he was a veteran, books on guns, etc.

Most troubled young men don't idolize him, they empathize with him. If you idolize him you are a literal loon like that guy that was stalking Jodie Foster and then shot Reagan.

When I first saw it in my late teens I idolised him and thought he was awesome, totally saw myself in him and thought he was a badass, the expression of everything I wanted to be and it quickly became my favourite film
After about 4 years on HRT I kind of changed my mind and it became way more tragic and I empathised with him more even though I thought he was way more cringe than I originally picked up on

How is wanting to save a young person from a wanton life of crime and pain "cringe"? The reality is Fosters character would probably end up back in the same situation a year later because at that age, seeing what she'd seen, it's irreparable harm and there is no going back from it (I think). But regardless of the futility of his quest, Travis' will to DO something selfless is commendable. He cleaned the streets however fleeting that cleanliness in Harlem in the 70s might have been. For a moment, in that whore house, it was pure. It's also one of the most badass scenes in film history but I don't blame you for not seeing that for what it was. Your mind has been thoroughly wracked by chemicals.

The domain has been moved to incels.is now. Also, I don't think Travis would qualify as an incel, there's not much in the movie that alludes to scientific blackpill.

He definitely read, what else was there to do pre-internet? He would qualify for an incel too, as being an incel is very much a mindset and practice. I watched taxi driver at 23 and thought it was kind of slow and shit. I rewatched at 27 and it was amazing and scarily relateable, just his mindset. I work nights, 12 hour shifts, I have had no proper gf in 2 years and I don't go out of my way to chase women. I don't see my friends often and covid didn't help, so isolation sets in. Isolation and depression breeds anger, paranoia, stress and detachment from others. Going to work at 11pm and seeing everyone out on a saturday night makes your brain think oddly, add sleep deprevation that Travis suffered from too, and you start to become desperate for an outlet. He chose violance, which alot of incels do (think highschool shooters and plymouth UK shooter) yet money of us just choose self-loathing and masturbation, drugs or self-improvement (without improving).
