How often do you guys pickup a book to read just because it has a neat artwork cover on it?

>buying a book just because of the cover

I seriously hope you don't do this.

Screw it, I'll bite.
I bought a few books from my library booksale for their neat covers. It was more that the covers brought me over to the books. I read the summary and a few pages, and decided to get them.
They were mostly chick-lit and bad novels overall, but still the cover played a part.

What was it people used to say? 'don't judge a book on the cover'? yeah i think it was that.

I took that shit to heart.

When I was about 6 or something I got a copy of a book called Second Nature by Cherry Wilder (or something like that) because it had cool cover art.

I think that was the only time.

I don't really buy a book because of its cover, but it does determine what edition I buy. My bookshelf is also sorted by colour.

>> No.1949011

Never.
Time is too precious to waste my time.

>> No.1949022

No, but I have been embarrassed of reading a book in public based on its cover. My copy of Steppenwolf is ugly as fuck.

>> No.1949088

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
The Lobster
Phlebas
The Oyster
The Lilies of the Field

I'm with this guy, it just influences my choice of edition.

Even though I own 2 different editions of A Clockwork Orange and am by tempted by a third.

>> No.1949129

I like my books to have plain covers, something stupid like neat artwork or a picture of a bird and a lake would make me less likely to pick it up.
