We know enough about the history of the time period to know that this is in fact the objectively correct truth, though. Apostolic succession is simply ahistorical. However, you could make some sort of argument for Orthodoxy being fine anyway. In fact, Protestants typically look at Christian history and don't have necessarily strong thoughts about the rise of the monarchical episcopate per se. They obviously feel it led to some pretty horrible things and don't think it's appropriate anymore, but will agree that given the time/location/method of communication, powerful bishops made sense in an ancient setting while dealing with heresies in a new religion. And some Protestants DO have powerful bishops.

By the way, given the fact that even Jerome noted that the Bible doesn't distinguish between bishops/overseers and presbyters, the entire notion of episcopal-based succession is just nonsense from the get go. There are only 2 orders: elders and deacons. It's fine to add a 3rd layer, but don't pretend the Bible commands it or that Christ established it.

The logic behind the interior remodeling makes sense, even though it's a bad idea. Europeans and their diaspora, especially the French, don't take Catholicism seriously. It's just a cultural signifier for most. Devout Catholics come from SEAsia, Africa and Latin America. They would be the ones who actually go inside Notre Dame, as French people only appreciate the building as a part of the nation's aesthetic and as a tourist spot. But it'll almost certainly be tacky and fail at attracting anyone, since everyone involved is a turboboomer.

According to the insiders who warned of the traditional restrictions, the Vatican came to regret it and abandoned plans to restrict the growth of orders and fraternities that clung to Tridentine mass. I doubt Francis himself will undo anything, but the next pope (who will most likely be an African man who is largely indifferent to this west-centered issue) will undo most fof what Francis. At the end of the day, the only people who actively care enough about ending TLM are western silent geners and boomers who see it as an attack on their life's work.
Long term, I think TLM will continue to exist and grow, but TLM won't take over the world like its advocates think it will. It'll be a niche thing you can find in most communities, but the norm will be vernacular. There are a lot of niche, minor Catholic communities and movements that have strong followings but are otherwise unimportant. Like the Charismatic Catholics and those weird angel groups.

Can trad caths provide any evidence that the movement hasn't slowed or stopped?
