Thanks, I'm not a fan of them personally, I get a bit weird about getting different publishers for the same author, so once I bought CoL49 in that edition I had to commit when I got the others. My mom even bought me the vintage classics edition of GR and I had to sneakily buy the other so it all matched.

The companion guide was also a gift, and didn't think it was too helpful. I somewhat stumbled through V, and used an online helper to get through it, so I was a bit intimidated by GR. It doesn't help with the content too much, but there is definitely a lot of the more obscure references in there that I would have missed otherwise, so if you want to autistically analyse it the companion is pretty good, but you could so without it. (Also srry for the double post, I accidentally clicked send halfway through).

Yes absolutely, its my favourite novel I've ever read. The Member of the Wedding is also great, so if you liked THIALH, then I would read that one next. After that, The Ballad of the Sad Cafe is my favourite, but really you could read anything, she has some good short stories like Wunderkind and Reflections in a Golden Eye you could read as well. There is also a movie for THIALH, but it didn't really have the depth of the book at all; there is a play for The Member of the Wedding too, I read through the script but it wasn't much better than the book, so I wouldn't bother with it either. It's just a shame there are no showings in theatres near me for it and all the recordings are too old to enjoy but as I said the novel is still great.

It makes for contextual discussion sure, but beyond that it really doesn't matter what ideas you have about politics unless you have the power/money to execute them, and I don't read philosophy to support the development or formation of a political theory. Of course they were part of a framework of marxist discourse because that was the religion of France at the time and they were on the payroll of the state, and all ideas went through that as through a matrix. Were they highly orthodox marxists I probably would not bother reading them since you can get that very directly elsewhere; they are interesting despite their marxism, as interpreters of Nietzsche especially.

I give away most of the textbooks the publishers send me.

It really bothers me that the publishers send me $50-100 books, ask me my opinion, and then try to sell them to undergrads with unique access codes to online quizzes and other BS.

It seems like a terrible waste of paper. People should only assign books in the public domain for most history, philosophy, religion, and literature courses. Students have enough bills as it is.

Thanks. Some of those fiction books, Wuthering Heights especially, was listed on the barnes and noble sale as "brand new" but it arrived and got fucked up in the shipping process because the dolts didn't put any protection between it and the other six books I ordered. At least consider the lobster turned out relatively okay. Haven't read Wuthering Heights yet but looking forward to it. I enjoyed the other Bronte sister's seminal work, Jane Eyre, in college.
As for Dick, yeah, he's fun. Haven't read Hyperion yet but it's on my list to read next year. I need a new copy of my LOTR though, my 14 year old freshman self wrote in the table of contents, checking off each chapter after I finished them, so they're essentially ruined by my standards.
