I think the term art is a very strong word. You can produce artifacts or sounds that have a beautiful aspect to them but they might not evoke such vivid emotion as to be considered to be "art" and I think that many people use the term art very lightly to refer to things that aren't really, it gets thrown lightly as a term used in marketing campaigns for popstar tours, video games, sports skills.

I'm not devaluing the merit of anyone, if you like what you like and it moves you then good for you but there are objective standards for these things. I've noticed people online like to attribute to their favourite writers or musicians these abilities that they perceive subjectively but aren't really there. There are websites where the people will go on and on about how death metal is the same as Wagner which is just not true, or how a vastly popular author is literary. The talent required to write something that achieves massive popularity might very well possess literary traits and I'd say it's even likely that the things we call literature tomorrow are extremely popular right now. I just don't know what.

Long ago I saw a video proclaiming the death of the artist as a genius in favour of the 'creative entrepreneur' who is basically an influencer. Will it be the righteous pedants of tomorrow that overlook some starving songwriter in favour of Travis Scott because he reflected the "spirit of the moment?" have I just no brains to tell?

Now in 2021 I'm expected to "date" a girl who's had 30-40 men coom inside her before me, doesn't want children, and doesn't believe in marriage because it's patriarchial. Why bother? It's temporary at the end of the day. If we consider the various parts of the West, we can see sexual norms going back to the mean sooner rather than later.
>Europe
As it becomes a Muslim-majority continent, Islamic gender norms take over.
>USA/Canada
Liberalism causes society to collapse, fundamentalist Christian sects emerge from the ashes. Traditional gender norms restored.

I don't see how the current paradigm can survive in the long run. If nothing else, the terminally low birthrate proves it.

He never feels pain, or rejection, or anything like that. I am certain his family is proud of him; he never feels the pain of disappointing those he loves. Everything luxury and comfort imaginable is available to him.

>Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown
Shut up. I have no crown and my head lies uneasy all the time. I fear for losing my job, I fear for failing in academic pursuits, I fear for not making money. Just once I would like to be like him, with power and luxuries and wealth beyond measure. Xi Jinping doesn't worry about losing his job, or failing, or money. He won the game of life. from what i understand a lot of italian towns did, pre-renaissance medieval italy is really strange like this, it constantly breaks the rules of what you would expect from normal history or a normal civilization. instead of being punctuated by obvious epochs and epochal shifts, everything kind of drifts and people have to figure shit out on their own. the empire could only control italy indirectly and the lombards became weaker and weaker, and the pope only rarely had direct control, so you have strange things like the popes still being dominated by literal who nobles in rome where there are people living in houses in a forest that has grown up inside the roman colosseum. nobody knows what political forms are "normal" for italy so everybody just makes shit up or revives old shit. strange communes and social structures pop up out of nowhere because there was no feudal hierarchy or imperial bureaucracy around to say no to them. it feels more like a "tribal" country mixed with prehistoric viking farmstead + ancient "if you can defend it, you're independent" city state rules than feudal/national country rules.

wickham's sleepwalking into a new world is a pretty cool book on the early communes in italy.

Through my study of buildings and my former job as a goods executioner I feel as thought the inside is only visible through dissection's. I have photographed many deteriorating buildings and awed at the true nature of materials guts. The deconstructionists where wrong, their principle is not metaphor or provocative word play but the truth as literally read. Woods drew his plans as pre-destroyed, a faked state of openness but a truly crumbling façade or festering botch is much more honest and edifying. It is too bad that flesh and steel alike are not designed to bend slowly and unravel but to fail monumentally all at once at death. Even more depressing is the illusion of vivisection, it may reveal some truth in the cuts and collapse at one juncture, the very collapse hides the next truth. I am temped to tear deeper then usual but I have no tools for this and the collapsed form of bricks and rock is stronger then its previous composure. The very earth is impenetrable to this effect and when I tempt to transpose these thoughts to fellow man I can only imagine the digging resulting it the futile unreadable red mist and gel which would slowly mix to mud and then mortar and then rock. If anything Gaudi was right to build up by hanging down, and by digging the cords of wire and anchor through its opposite is the indestructible, and likewsie if there where a perfect man he would be designed from his corpse and dangled upsidedown from the heads stone nto animate life

Look at the bottom of the picture, the things that look like bushes are HOUSES.
This would mean that the towers would be as high as late 20th/early 21st century skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa if the drawing is supposed to be to scale.
Bologna would look straight out of Akira or Blade Runner in a medieval setting.

I have actually studied this subject extensively because I worked with a museum to design a digital rendition of another high middle ages Italian city. I'm an architect whose bachelor degree is in architectural history(with a speciality in vernacular Italian architecture.)
You are not understanding
>I’ve seen the actual pictures of the two towers. If the rest of them looked like that it still wouldn’t look like that artistic rendition.
The majority of medieval urban towers were completely demolished in the 14th century as the magnate dominated order of "good men" consensus based governance was overtaken by a more legalist system that was either ruled by a podesta(or equivalent) or by a series of councils dominated by guilds. The towers represented opposition to this order and a period of intense violence within the cities between the ruling families. The towers that remained were shortened considerably and had to he lower than buildings like the church or "town hall". So what you see today is not a representative of their original height, especially in large cities like Bologna
>This would mean that the towers would be as high as late 20th/early 21st century skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa if the drawing is supposed to be to scale

Sometimes I have the idea that what I'm doing is having a battle of wits with some Platonic super ideal, that of Beauty, or Good, or True, and what I want from it is to present itself, and what it wants from my is my naiveté, my spontaneity. They say what God lacks is limitation. So here, in myself, is where the finite and the infinite meet, and my idea, like a Taoist, is to stand up and let it happen. And the thing is that I feel it everywhere when I'm not doing it right. I'm being selfish, I'm demanding too much control, and the spirit won't have it. That's not for me. My place is to be myself, with my ridiculous ignorance, and, well, to have faith.

A scientist from my country said that if all countries follow what they signed on to in the Glasgow meetings, we will reach about 1.8 degrees Celsius.

This assumes two things: all countries do what they said they would do, also that there won't be any major breakthroughs along the way.

In either case things are looking up, we probably won't collapse civilization

I walk lockstep
End to end of my parents patio
Cigarette smoke trailing behind me
Imagining that I am guarding
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

What I would give to have such a purpose,
Their automatic movements juxtaposing
My clumsy steps in the cold.

I may not be tall enough to be a guardsman
But I may have a purpose yet
Patrolling the backyard with listless indifference
Back and forth back and forth
The only difference between my action
And theirs may be intention.

So much weight rests on their sacrifice of Self
To ceremony
Perhaps the weight of a nation.

Female friend of mine who worked in a lab once told me she stole two medicinal leeches from her lab and took them home with her. These were large leeches apparently, already thick when unfed and as long as an adult finger. She put the leeches away in the fridge and had a nice big dinner: steak (medium rare), potatoes, greens, the works, and a nice red wine to go with it. After which she went to the bathroom and then took the leeches out of the fridge. She then plugged her vagina and ass with tampons and put the two live, though apparently somewhat drowsy, leeches in her panties (yes, she was wearing them) and proceeded to leave them in there for an hour. That's when I told her to stop, as I didn't want to hear the gruesome rest. Though, of course, I couldn't help ask why she did it. Her response: because I bloody well felt like it!

Just turned 26 with no job prospects and nothing on the horizon; I'm a failed normie and my savings are slowly depleting. This is in large part because a few years ago I had a mental breakdown and since then OCD and panic attacks have shattered my life.

It feels like I'm stuck behind a grimy plexiglass prison, watching things pass me by but unable to see things clearly or exercise any agency; I'm like a piece of driftwood being tossed around by the current. My obsessions are so bad it's hard to think about anything at all, including planning for the future and I have very few memories of the past 6 years. It's also hard to breathe and I feel like I'm on the verge of a heart attack constantly; when I venture into the outside world I'm so on edge that just being alongside other people feels like a fight for survival.

My grandfather (who openly tells me I'm a disappointment) called to wish me a happy birthday a few days ago and said that given how old I am I need to stop fucking around and get a job. And while he's right, it's so frustrating hearing from him and my parents that I need to go to law school or get a job or something while every waking second feels like I'm being tortured. I'm really not sure what to do. I almost fainted during my last interview. The crushing reality of life has hit me like a brick, in that this is it. There's no doctor that can cure mental problems, no do-overs, and no one can save you but you. And if you die, that's just how it is, there's billions of other people.

I think it helped a little in that the cognitive work convinced me that low self esteem is irrational and it helped me shed some of my insecurities, and in turn my anxiety has loosened a little, but I tried expressing to my therapist many times what specifically I'm experiencing and what I'd like help with but he thought he knew better what I needed than I did so we tried so many methods that I think were misguided. We also did almost no exposure work and he never laid out any regiments for me to follow.

I still am in a constant state of such severe anxiety that I can't really function. I know everyone thinks they have it the worst and doomers tout their shortcomings like a badge of honor, but to give an idea of where I was at 2 years ago, it was so severe that I couldn't even hold a conversation with family members without nearly breaking down. It became a problem at work where every conversation had me feel like I was going to go crazy in front of people, and I developed insomnia and became suicidal. It's felt difficult to breathe for years now and I have heart palpitations, blurry vision, butterflies in my stomach, and I get no pleasure from anything.

I finally started sleeping again though and my anxiety feels like its slowly becoming less consuming, but I'm kind of out of time.

The contessa was a famous and quite wealthy eccentric. She was also a devotee of fashion and her eccentricities bled quite frequently into the latter. For an upcoming party she devised the idea of wearing a style of dress that it had never occurred to anyone to design before and, what's more, that would and could only be unique to her. This contessa was a woman over forty, buxom and voluptuous, with a prominent and well formed derriere--though her face was full of freckles. Then one day while looking in the mirror, after having just made use of the commode, it hit her: she asked her private tailor to fashion for her a dress imprinted with a granular pattern that exactly mimicked her anus and no other: it'd be like a leopard print dress, if the print was three dimensional and made of taffeta and based off of a three dimensional mold of her rectal orifice (the only variance would be the color, a neutral cross between white and pink with perhaps a hint of khaki).

The day of the soiree she wore the dress (with matching color suede shoes and no underwear underneath to add, secretly, to the irony) to great aplomb. Today is my "inside-out day, she declared, "what's normally concealed is now revealed, and what we normally show shall be set aside for the morrow; come and touch, don't be hesitant, especially you gentlemen. Even though I'm inerrantly, almost monastically, celibate tonight you can touch and caress my dress and thereby have a feel of what not even by old stable of lovers ever had the audacity (or embarrassment) to feel. Mind you though, make sure your hands are clean, I don't want the slightest smudge or stain on my new anus print dress!"

i should point out that taking probiotics for gut health might not be a good idea if you have increased intestinal permeability. It is not common knowledge, but it can actually make mental health issues worse in some cases. i learned this the hard way. Probably due to increased exposure to endotoxins.

it turns out that injecting mice with lipopolysaccharides (endotoxin) is used to induce depression, anxiety and psychosis. they induce this to test SSRI's on them.

if you suspect that you have a compromised gut barrier, i would advise not eating foods that ferment too much in the gut. this will increase your exposure to endotoxin, and may make your mental health issues worse.

things that can heal the gut barrier:
>zinc carnosine
>intermittent fasting
>multi day fasting
>glycine
>colostrum

hopefully this helps you in some way

Abrahamic religion is true in the most convoluted way. God and human are one and the same, wanting to be God is at the bottom of ethics and human endeavor. In the end, man will create heaven and earth. Wishes are incompatible, that's why there is only one. In fact, the Abrahamic worldview is the pinnacle of materialism, if they took their own theology seriously. It recognises that there is no answer to ethics, only a solution. The problem still remains of why the self exists, that is the fundamental problem; the only spiritual one, as in, seemingly unanswerable by physics. I probably sound a bit schizo, and I do feel a bit schizo, everything revolves around the material(the "non-materialistic" Abrahamic is in full agreement, since Heaven is literally feel-good wish fulfillment according to a program, or more crudely, junkies forever; again, if they took their own theology seriously), yet the very question of our existence is immaterial. It seems there is no explanation to anything at the bottom.

Not really, that's the root of it. Whether it was conscious but corrupted, or unconscious, I don't know, but that's what it is. It's basically what will happen if there is no limit to technology- anyone can do whatever they want, and noone can stop anyone. So people just mold their own playworld. The only ethic is personal will, and it can be a jealous God indeed.

A mass of scales moved within the darkness, the moonlight creeping in from the crevasse in the rock walls of the cave glancing off of them. Arehanna wanted to run, but she fought against the instinct. Her visions had not failed her thus far.
Even so, she couldn’t help but tremble at the sight before her: A giant, winged lizard craned its neck towards her, spreading its wings to reveal its blackened, scaled body.
Suddenly, a booming voice echoed throughout the chamber, and Arehanna took a step back, reeling from its sheer magnitude.
“Hark, woman!” The beast spoke, its terrifying visage trained upon the young girl. “You need not fear, for I will not harm you.”
Arehanna shivered in fright before the massive creature, her legs threatening to buckle beneath her in sheer awe at the beast before her. The thing’s voice was shaking her to her core, rumbling in her ears like an earthquake. Still, she tried to wrangle the quavering of her voice, and present herself as someone becoming of the mantle of Queen of Alceoth.
“I am not afraid, dragon!”
“Lies are unbecoming of you, my Queen.” The beast replied, a soft chuckle in his voice. “And were it true, your foolishness would be shameful. But I require neither your fear nor your courage – rather, I desire your attention, and nothing more. That, after all, is why I have guided you here to this place.”

>Abrahamic religion is true in the most convoluted way.
Not really
>In fact, the Abrahamic worldview is the pinnacle of materialism, if they took their own theology seriously.
Part of why they are wrong, materialism is low tier

The word 'God' as we understand it in the Abrahamic world is a confused meaningless buzzword.
God in the bible describes the demiurge.
God and Satan are basically the same thing in the way they are described in the bible.
The demiurge is in charge of this material plane as is a semi living machine, unable to hear your thoughts or your prayers, not a fully alive and fully omni 'God' - omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient etc, he isn't powerful enough to have those things, even in this place where he is governor.
He can't hear you.
People who think they are worshipping Satan are just interacting with demons.
There are many troublesome spirits around, and they should not be contacted. Magic, psychic phenomena, all of it is low level spirituality and will cause problems if you pursue it.
The only worthwhile direction is refinement of the spirit.

To refine your spirit is to connect to what is beyond our realm, beyond the jurisdiction of the demiurge. That is why there is an emphasis on looking past material things in Buddhist traditions.
Karma is a dirty low energy that accumulates on those who hold on too tightly to the material plane and its distractions.

I spent most of the first half of this year reading deeply into philosophy books and came out of it just feeling alone and dejected. I decided that I was tired of overthinking my life and wanted to live more based on gut feeling than strategy. I also came here and voiced some of my concerns about how seeking philosophical truth seemed only to alienate me further from friends and family, and just leave me with more questions, except more mentally isolated.

I got some advice that 1) I should follow the Dao and the way of things and 2) I should be looking for those who are looking for me. Anyway, I thought a lot about what I had read, and the things that people here said that really resonated with me. I kind of threw my life into the air, sold my house, cheated on my wife and slept with my best (female) friend of 15 years and and then moved to a new country. My life is more or less in a state of highly energetic constant chaos, and I am so much happier than I was before. I am in a constant state of a sort of wild W curve of emotions, but its so much more interesting to me to have the extremes of feeling and thought than my previous state of just trudging into my wagie grave. I have no idea what will happen next, but I am confident that whatever happens, it will be alright, and moreover, it will be interesting. I'm also making a lot more money than I used to, so there's that. L'chaim bros.

>healthcare=happiness is a problem and an inhuman and a completely political, mechanicist view of happiness, something that is not, happiness is another type of concept

That wasn't whole equation of the survey. All those things together can get a subjective view of things. People generally do things that enhance their lives to make then happier. So electing governments that enact social protections and Healthcare would make people happier where people know that their tax dollars go to helping their fellow citizens. As opposed to America where people go bankrupt because of health bills and the government doesn't negotiate drug prices because their government is bought out by the drug lobby.

Garreth's life part 1

After 17 grueling lonely years of dealing with his abusive father after his mother died from child birth, Garreth decided it was time to leave. He packed all of his clothes he could and left the house. He did all of this in the middle of the night while his father was sleeping. Garreth knows how cranky he can get with his physical beatings and yelling at him. Garreth picked up a gas can and headed to a gas station near by. He paid the gas station attendant $20 and then filled up the gas tank with diesel gas. Garreth found his grandfather on his mother's side's car still in it's hidden garage, A 1976 Chevy truck that's still pressumed to be in good condition and still runs. All that's need to be done now is the tarp needs to be thrown off and ready to drive. Garreth has no license, but has been practicing driving with his acquaintances while they were drinking to parties and he drove them back home. Cops drove right past him while he was doing this. Garreth dropped out of high school after being forced to by his abusive father to do chores around the house and to find a job to pay for bills. Garreth is still suffering belt whip pain from getting fired from a dishwashing job his father forced him to go to. Garreth breathed and got in the truck. He breathed heavily remembering how his father had a way with words in convincing the cops to make him stay at the house. Garreth also worried about cops during curfew. But then he remembered what one of his friends said about him. "You're tall as shit dude. You look like you're in your 20's not 17. Shit I'd thought you'd be in college by now." and then Garreth breathed heavily, put the keys in the ignition and drove the truck off. Garreth drove as far as the city limits, then the highway, then the state limits, and as far as 3 states before the truck broke down. Turned out the truck needed more work than he thought. Now he's 17 years old and trapped on a bridge to Kansas City. Garreth walked and walked in the cold air with his hoodie over his head, cars passed by honking their horns at him, and even one guy in a car threw a beer can at him and yelled, "GET A JOB YOU BUM!". Garreth knew he was in for a long journey ahead in Kansas City. He hasn't eatten for days and is thirsty. He only had $20 for mowing the grass at someone's lawn while he gave all of his work checks to his father before he was fired. Now Garreth is on his own in the streets.

Martin writes complex conflicted characters who seem real because of how much shit they contain and how much shit you've seen them go through, and the show toned them down from their book versions just enough to hit a sweet spot of complexity so that every normie could pick a favorite and gamble on whether they'd survive next week, while picking a favorite to hate and hoping they get raped and murdered next week.

As soon as the show departed from Martin's source material it stagnated, the characters still had velocity but no more acceleration. This became more apparent over time, as nothing "new" was being added to the characters, in fact they were being flattened and levelled down to the actual generic stock characters the showrunners would have written if they hadn't had Martin's source material to begin with.

By the late seasons there was nothing left and it was a trainwreck with characters who you sort of remember knowing but don't know anymore because they've been retards for so long, and now you mostly want to see everyone die.

Also something becoming popular initially because of merit will then explode in hyper-popularity as it becomes the established Think Everyone Likes Now and normies like it for the sake of liking it. It increased the weird factor of the show being unrecognizable past season 5 that that is when it really took off with normies, and for everyone going "wtf why is everyone so retarded" in the last season there were a billion normies who were genuinely shocked that Dany became Hitler.

That also made the last season fun to watch because it was a total catastrophic failure, and watching Dany become Hitler in one episode and normies freak out about it after naming their kids after her was fun.

Just resubbed to audible. They roped me in with 4 months fo 50% off. I figure $28 for 4 audiobooks ain't bad. I'm thinking of getting more Caiphus Cain, I really enjoyed book one even though it was only 10 hours or so.

I also need to finish the 1st volume of shadowrun series by Robert N. Charrette. It was a slow burn to start but it dives deep once his waifu gets roasted and you get into some real shway shit.

In that same vein I also started listening to Gotrek and Felix by William King. It didn't really stick for me but I hadn't really given it a lot of time. The narrations from all these selections are pretty good. I do like the violent dwarf voice of Gotrek. I really need to give that one more time.

>What's On Your Mind?!
midlife crisis. I'm probably going to die poor and I'm too lazy to finish any project I start so I won't even leave any sort of legacy that I existed. I'll be going back to work in December. If my meme stocks/coins don't moon I'll resolve myself to the banal exchange of my life for fiat currency.

Of course you're never going to finish a project if you're doing it to leave a legacy (don't even get me started on how retarded this concept is). Human instincts don't care about legacies and you're not going to generate lasting motivation by having that as you're goal. The people who finish projects do it because they find DOING the project addictive, satisfying, and puzzling.

If you use it as an opportunity to save money and learn to fix and repair everything in their house (really not hard, most contractors are half retarded. get a book on home maintenance and use some youtube), then you can go buy your own house after a while, which is by far the cheapest way to live if you do most of the maintenance yourself.

>My life is more or less in a state of highly energetic constant chaos, and I am so much happier than I was before. I am in a constant state of a sort of wild W curve of emotions, but its so much more interesting to me to have the extremes of feeling and thought than my previous state of just trudging into my wagie grave.
Your life is now closer to that of an animal, which is why you're happier. It's what you're bred for.
