That's because you probably went into medicine because you "wanted to be a doctor" or worse "want to help people" and are just now realizing it. The best doctors are those who are fascinated by the medicine. The second best are in it for the money. Of course you would hate medical school and be miserable if you have no real interest in the material, and such really is the case with most doctors.

These days I often read the first 80-100 pages of a book and then move onto to something else if it isn’t grabbing me. I recently found myself combing through some of Salinger’s short stories though.

>How are you holding up
Been digging deeper into spirituality and meditation practices because I currently can’t work because of psychological trauma. I spend more time asleep than awake most days. I accidentally forgot to take my meds yesterday for the first time in months and immediately felt the difference, so at least I know the meds aren’t placebo. I also had fun talking with my gf a few days ago, but she plays on my mind a lot because I feel like she’s the only thing keeping me sane most days. Seems to me like I’m trying to achieve some kind of spiritual enlightenment and detach myself from the material world because I can barely function in “normal” society without wanting to kms. Seriously, I ever wanted to do in life was do creative projects, personal hobbies and have a family. Ever since I graduated university though, I’ve been completely lost because I just don’t do this wageslave bullshit that everyone else seems content with (I literally got fired from a past job because I insisted on working at my own pace). At least the projects are fun.

It took me a while to get into it and some parts feel lazy but I can't help but enjoy seeing people like Samuel Pepys and Horatio Nelson come to life on the page. It's a great shame that the book was never truly finished, reading Monsarrat write about WW2 once more would have been great. At the same time I've been reading Battle at Sea by John Keegan. I appreciate how thorough he is on showing the development of naval warfare between Trafalgar and WW2. Naval warfare always comes across as absolutely terrifying, I'm very glad to be a land dweller.

I've achieved everything I needed to but I reflect on 4 years of worry, anxiety and aloofness. I didn't make many new friends but kept my closest ones. I can't say I worked at breakneck speed but still deferred a lot of things such as travel for the sake of preparing to get into medicine. Most of all I hate the implications and consequences of living. There's this girl I liked and since Im talkin about her now, perhaps love. She isn't the prettiest, terrible body (flat) and is a week but sociable. I want to love her but our obligations to family, consequences of both the success and failure of the relationship, her expectations and so on interfere with it all. I saw her latest picture and she looked miserable and that made me feel the same also. I want to contact her again but I have to move interstate for said med school. I think Proust was right when be said something like decision to love is failure. I fail if I love her and I fail if I don't either. I miss you so much F.L.
