What does the perfect study look like?

What types of desk, shelves? With which types of wood? Layouts and floorplans! Daylight and tungsten fixtures!

What do we need?

Anything to not read huh? Hey, but at least this ones fun.

> Reference books (Encyclopædias, Dictionaries, Thesauruses, Atlases, Biographical Dictionaries, etc.)
Yeah, this shit can be found on the internet but it's helpful to have it in person, trust me. My library has that shit.

> A desktop, laptop, paper, good pens, internet connection, etc.
obviously

Is there really much else than that? good furniture I guess, idk.

>desk config (not for gaming but can be used for that as well)
Desk has to be big, I mean 2 meters long and 1 meter deep. Dual monitors (at least) with one vertical, both mounted on a single vesa mount that latches on beneath the desk surface. Pristine cable management, a huge mat for the center of the desk upon which you can write, a small wooden lectern off to one side to hold your book open on the desk. Pen trays and the likes go in a drawer, but there shouldn't be too much storage beneath the desk top otherwise it looks like a kitchen counter.
The sides and back of the desk should touch the ground for maximum comfy (almost coccooned in it), an a very large, very comfy (but not to soft) chair with a high back and head support a la Titan Evo, but with actually good design.
Materials: dark wood, black leather, brass and black anodized aluminum
OR
matt white desk top. bare steel, grey velvet, light wood and brass accents

One time I was on drugs and two threads were side by side on the front page, one of a bust of Plato looking to the side, and another of a similar bust looking directly at me

I was scrolling past and my brain filled in the details, that the bust turned to look at me, Plato himself was for some reason choosing this moment to manipulate the fabric of reality to contact me through the internet by possessing a digital statue

Made me jump and gave me that creepy cold shiver down my spine

Amazon but it's from a 3rd party local seller. It's a desk bookstand or lectern. There's a million of these available, get one that is made of solid wood and isn't super cheap. Get one that's in the 30 dollar range. If you have back or neck problems or you just prefer a slanted surface you'll use it all the time so it's worth it.
I put a piece of wood (the one with more visible veins) between the bottom edge and the book I'm writing in, so I can reach the bottom of the page without bumping against the wood. I take it off when I'm reading.

Also if you have the money whatever laptop or desktop you have being strictly for the type of work you intend to do in the room would be ideal to avoid distractions. A modern day study could quickly become a room where you sit down and watch youtube, listen to music and play vidya. There is nothing wrong with recreation and inspiration but having things set up for one purpose helps your mind focus on what that purpose is

Not there because I find that corridor layout for the tables uncomfortable, but give me this with a separate sitting room and I'd spend days there.
When I was in London there were these old school pubs, probably dating back from the period, sort of dimly lit with wooden tables and chairs. There were middle aged people sitting and enjoying a beer. Same in Czech Republic. In my country you have these "Irish pubs" but they're just modern drinking/eating establishments with a vintage coat of paint. I did not like London but the parks and little things like the pubs were really noice.

>All artists-- and probably all people-- have in their minds the fantasy workspace. "If I could only work in..." Forget it. This is always going to fail. Always, every single time. They are distractions, they sap emotional and creative energy. You may be surprised to learn/assumed that this blog is written mostly in airports, hotel lobbies (wifi), and on my Blackberry.

For writing a blog perhaps a computer is all you need.
But for writing a serious book you may need more. Notes and sketches of important places perhaps, all pinned to a board or the wall. It depends.
For writing all I need is a computer and the Internet. But I haven't been anywhere near an airport for a few years.

For drawing, painting, illustrating, you need at least a desk with enough space for large paper, materials, and tools.

A musician will need a lot of expensive equipment, a band needs to hire a room for practice.

If it is available, an artist should of course dedicate a room of their house to their craft.
