Cope, many of the Greeks were fags, Plato hated the gays but he was also a monotheist, just because he was smarter and wiser than the rest of Greece doesn’t mean that his views reflect everyone.

It’s more correct to say that Plato disapproved of consummating pederastic relationships than to say he hated “the gays” as if they constituted a distinct populace. Homoerotic appreciation seems to play a vital role in his idea of philosophical contemplation so long as it doesn’t boil over into actual sexual activity (and his views on this harden progressively over time — in Phaedrus Socrates is lenient toward couples who ‘lapse’ but in the Laws Plato wants to make homosexuality as reviled as incest). Plato is more like a kind of homosexual St. Paul

What makes girls like this? I don't know if its just what I attract or my environment but all my gf's have been extremely disgusted by homosexuality.

>> No.19357663

Some Greeks particularly later on understood Achilles and Patroclus as having a homoerotic relationship so sure its justifiable, if you want to, to interrupt it in that way. What bugs me is how they chimp out if you don't despite the fact that this was far from a universal view, was only common later on, and wasn't even present in any way in the original text. As well at most you can interpret Achilles and Patroclus as being bi. If you've actually read the Iliad which most of these idiots haven't, they're constantly surrounded by beautiful girls that worship them and go to bed with girls in their bed, ffs the entire core conflict between Agamemnon and Achilles is over a girl, which later on Achilles describes as being the finest and one that he might take as a bride if I'm remembering right.

>> No.19357874

>>19357710
I believe Achille's ferocity at Agamemnon was largely just honor driven, but if I'm remembering right later on he does say something about Briseis that implies he thought of her as more then a fling.

>> No.19357881

>>19357856
It's probably just what you attract man.
All of my ex GF's have been bi, and in one case, a lesbian I made question her sexuality.

>> No.19357710

>>19357663
Ya I see twitter femoids chimp out if you acknowledge not all depictions of Achilles and Patroclus (including the first, probably) are homoerotic, however on 4chan I see moids chimp out if you acknowledge the strong tradition in antiquity of interpreting it that way (NOO NOOO ITS FAKE ITS NOT REAL!!!!!!). I don't know what kind of sexual neurosis causes this. Apart from the fact that Greek myths are highly mutable and its heroes do not always possess the same characteristics in major depictions, we are also dealing with a foreign culture that conceived of sexuality in a very different way from us. That said, as far as I remember, Achilles' interest in Briseis is purely as sexual booty and his rage at Agamemnon has more to do with his honour being slighted (being deprived of what is rightfully his, beign humiliated) than out of any romantic attachment to her -- obviously his attachment to Patroclus is the most intense one, erotic or not.

Women insist on homoeroticism because lots of women are proto-fujoshi. Guys insist against it because lots of guys are extremely homophobic while wanting to ape the Greeks, which causes some cognitive dissonance.
