>be me
>having dinner yesterday with my family because it's my mother's birthday
>my sister says she's reading 1984
>"oh, cool. I've read that book when I was 16, just like you. It's pretty good", I say
>my dad says "it's a very current piece of literature"
>"wait, you read 1984? I didn't know you liked Orwell's works."
>"no, I didn't read it"
>"so how do you know it's still relevant?"
>"look, I just know it's relevant, okay anon?"

Why do boomer Orwell stans have to be like this lmao, I find it amazing how people compliment him without reading anything he writes.

Is there anything more midwit than being a fan of dystopian literature?

1984 isn't dystopian

I think he was just trying to spark some conversation with his estranged autistic son.

You sound like an autist OP, have you gotten yourself tested?

This. I am also assuming the comment he directed at his sister was the result of a know it all attitude rather than anything said in good faith. Get the help you need anon.

Your caged knowledge will be your tomb. And it'll be a cringe one.

We're not estranged, I live with him. We have a good relationship and it's rare to see him talk about something he doesn't understand.

Yes indeed, I'm autistic. Sperg, to be more precise. I have been diagnosed four years ago.

May I ask what is autistic about what I said? I'm asking you in good faith.

It's kind of disappointing that you are actually autistic, because me telling you to get help was supposed to be a snappy dick comment that is sort of pushing the boundaries. You being autistic takes the edge off and just makes what I said awkward and malicious.
Anyway, to address your question, the autistic bit is you getting bogged down on the details of the book. First of all, a man does not need to read a book in order to know what it is about, what meaning it has in society and when, why or who might be appreciating it at a given time. My guess, however, is that your dad is some sort of based boomer and was just reminded of the miserable state of contemporary society by the mention of 1984. In all likelihood, he wanted to express this tiresome sensation and share his concerns about current day politics, maybe make himself feel better by discussing it with his family. The actual book here is not really all that important and if you've read the book yourself, then it would certainly have been possible for him to lean on your knowledge in order to justify how modern society is 1984-ish with a discussion.
With all that said, I might be completely wrong, since I was not there. This is just the most sensible way I can understand the situation off of what little information you have provided.
Also, disregard the know it all comment - I am tired and missed out on the part where you specified your sister is now also 16. Don't want you second guessing yourself or anything.

Don't worry about that, anon. I won't take what you said about me in offense since I'm not the type to take the internet too seriously, it's okay.
