Panos Karnezis. I discovered him last year, and have nearly finished reading his oeurve. He's a modern British Greek writer. His writing style is pretty similar to Gabriel Garcia Marquez, although the content and characters are different. He is similar to a Hispanic writer, e.g. politics, religion, poorness, etc.

The Maze - bad
Little Infamies - good
The Birthday Party - really good
The Convent (reding) - decent

Kenji Miyzawa

Most of his fiction is children's stories, but they are stories that can be enjoyed just as much by adults. While most of the stories have a small village or rustic setting, the ones that concern technology are very embracing of it (high-line wires, trains). "Night Train to the Stars"/"Night on the Milky Way Railroad"/etc is I think his more popular story, as it had an anime made out of it, but my personal favorite is "The Earthgod and the Fox."

He also wrote a good deal of poetry, but I haven't yet looked into that. I'm sure its just as enjoyable as his children's stories though.

For anyone who may want to check him out, here's a .rar with three of his short stories:

Unknown to serious readers anywhere, I guess, but including on /lit/. The author I mentioned in the OP isn't someone I've ever heard mentioned anywhere, even a message board for literature.

I've finished The Convent now, btw, and it was decent enough. Simple, but decent.
