I feel the same way. The majority of books I have read that do this somehow are incapable of making it not unrealistic, repetitive, and annoying. Earlier this year I read Slade House by David Mitchel and it was primarily inner monologue. Absolute trash

Amusingly this is almost the diametric opposite of Schopenhauer's view. When he picked his "four best novels of all time" he said basically a novel was better the more it showed of inner life and the less of outer reality.
