What's the problem with "genre fiction"?

>> No.19301047

Some of it is garbage and the snobs focus on that. The quality is also considered garbage, but it’s because they don’t like light, “cozy”, schlocky, etc. entertainments

This board is filled with fatherless pseudo-intellectuals who hide behind the ankles of greater men to form opinions
They consider anything that isn't their foster father's musings to be pointless

>> No.19301074

Nothing is wrong with genre fiction because its purpose is to scratch the itch of a particular aesthetic and allow your brain to decompress. I read 10,000 pages of The Malazan Book of the Fallen because it is pure worldbuilding autism starring some nerds d&d OCs.

Literally nothing, its not even a useful term for categorising fiction. Its a label that serves as an alternative to saying "I am not interested in that" for people who consider themselves above actually explaining that sentiment.

I've read the first two of those. I actually kind of like it, and I'm not a big fantasy guy.
