What am I in for? Have you people read this? Is it good?

My russian love interest recommended this to me.

You are in for a devil of a good time! Familiarity with Faust encouraged, but not required.

I was a little disappointed desu. The book was ok or even good, but I guess it was hyped too much. I thought it would be a more serious type of book since it's russian lit, but it had a silly world to it. Which was nice, but not what i had hoped for

theres nothing silly about this book muzhik!

Alright, looks like it is partly /lit/ approved. As I understand it it's a satire so not taking it too seriously is key.

It really fits in current times when you think about the stuff we're told is real vs the stuff we actually think are believable real

Russian literature is no synonymous with dark, depressing quasi-religious stuff. It's just the part that sells best in the West.
It is better then to read Bulgakov's "White Guard", I would even say that this book is better written purely technically. Although she's not entirely "serious" either. Just to what happened to Russia since the 20th century (not even since the revolution), it was impossible to take very seriously and not go crazy. Everywhere there is a little gallows humor.

Didn't necessarily mean dark or depressing. But they're usually not too light-hearted
