Does lit ever buy premium editions of books?

They come with illustrations, hardcover, better quality paper etc.

Not that sort of premium; though I did buy a Norton Critical Edition of Tolstoy's short stories for an essay by Eikhenbaum.

I will never love a book enough to justify folio prices

I buy expensive hardcovers of books I love, but they're books like the Divine Comedy and not pulp trash like GRRM or Harry Potter. I did all smaller reading on an e-reader though I'm going back to paper.

I generally don't buy 'premium editions' but I do try to buy first editions when possible when purchasing literature (less so for non-fiction/history/philosophy/etc).

I did get the Folio Society's edition of Plutarch's Lives, but they idiotically arranged them chronologically instead of in the parallel sequence Plutarch had intended, so in hindsight I wish I hadn't bought those.

If I had $270 AUD I wouldn't be spending it on one book, I could buy enough for 3 months with that much. All high quality translations and Routledge shit.

For the most part I'd say they aren't worth it full price, but if I can find them used or on sale I like when they have sewn bindings instead of glued.

I have the Folio Dune, Stranger in a strange land, Rendezvous with Rama and the Silmarillion. I love them all but the Silmarillion is my least favorite of the group
