I've knocked around with quite a few rationalists IRL. There's a strong 'neurotic Jewish' streak in a lot of the more prolific americans that contribute, and it feels like the intellectual prowess in them has come at the cost of a few prevalent genetic disorders, poor health and resulting insecurities/anxieties. In general the group is probably the most intellectually honest one around however, and there's a lot of valuable takes knocking around amongst them. Glean what's good and discard what isn't.

They're all braindead and use 'rationalism' as a cult as well as a cope for their deficiencies. Just read and talk to anyone who doesn't exclusively identify with self-debasing ideas like 'i'm so smart'.

Did one of them strike a nerve anon?

>> No.19267760

>>19267725
Not that anon but my problem with trying to rationalize a better life is that it doesn’t ever work, necessarily, no amount of word play is impetus enough to do anything ever. The only thing that will move your body is genuine belief in something. You can think all the things you want but if your actions don’t align then it doesn’t matter. Either you’re just DOING it or you simply lack faith. That’s all there is, there’s your implied advice to winning at life, if you aren’t DOING it then you clearly mean nothing you say. all these chains of articles with equations in them and strained strings of logic about why you are on Reddit are totally beside the point

This is why you can learn exactly what all your problems are via a psychiatrist and not change one bit, because you really don’t believe they are problems or don’t care
