arguably the greatest novel of the 20th century. It covers so many genres and can be interpreted through a myriad of different lenses, it occasionally reads like a giant schizo post but in the best way possible. A lot of esoteric religious and mythological symbolism layered in with screwball comedy and some really bleak and cynical glimpses into the politics of power and various mechanisms of societal control. its also a historical novel set in world war 2 and therefore a fascinating period piece (the sheer amount of cultural references from the era are absolutely astonishing)

im really not doing it justice at all, assuming you aren't a complete fiction novice i highly recommend it

Covers almost every emotion you can muster, overwhelming stylistic experimentation, truly immersive and fun reading experience, unique, epic scope, relevant thematic statement to any westerner, guaranteed to elicit emotion and provoke strong reaction though they might not be positive ones, soul crushing ending, hilarious retard-genius humour, unkempt display of righteous hatred, hopeful yet realistic attitude toward anarchy, great psychological bdsm scenes, greater moments of tenderness amidst the shit of ww2, a truly rebellious novel.

the kind that even though I use an ereader, I'd want to carry around with me, so people know I'm reading it

i think thats somewhat open for debate, but when i first read it i had already read infinite jest, slaughterhouse five, the trial, 1984 and some other more entry level stuff, i think that was enough of a primer in "serious" literature to have a decent experience and be able to appreciate the book to a moderate degree. however going back and re reading it after delving into more of the classics i felt like i was primed to get more out of it. i think this is sort of a paradox with reading though, a lot of books rely on having read other books, i don't think that means you need to start with the greeks or whatever but i guess my point is that gravitys rainbow is 100% not entry level, i actually think infinite jest was a better into to post modernism although i don't look back that fondly on it compared to a lot of others in the genre (pynchon barth and gaddis etc)
