The first three books are the only ones that are good, the latter two (really it's one book split into two volumes) balloon the plot out to the point that it can't be brought back together, which is why the series will never be finished. The bigger problem is that, for example, I, and I'd assume anyone who wasn't an autistic fanboy, has pretty much forgotten most of the series anyway. I'm currently reading the fourth book of the Wheel of Time, and while I was looking up something earlier I ran across some spoilers, and it turns out that not only the Seanchan aren't disposed of by the end of the series, they also manage to conquer part of Rand's continent AND according to prophecy, at some point in the future they will also end up conquering all of it eventually, while still retaining their sadistic customs. What in the actual fuck? I fucking hated the Seanchan from the moment they appeared and I can't believe this is what Jordan envisioned for Randland.

Four, five, six and seven are absolutely fantastic. The revelations about the setting and the laws of this world, the tiny tweaks to the world of our own and how the changes have descended down through the ages are just fascinating. I read the British Library horror anthologies Killer Roots and Into The London Fog. Killer Roots was pretty average, and although London Fog featured E. F. Benson and Arthur Machen it was full of shit that was politics. Sure, it was horror, but it wasn't the horror I wanted.

Sci-fi bros, I've never read Le Guin. Is she good? Looking for an excuse to buy this fancy Library of America volume since it just went on sale (only 35 loonies).

I don't like modern woke culture, however I don't dislike themes of racism/sexism/prejudice when handled by someone who isn't stupid. I'm left wing broadly speaking, but I hate a lot of modern leftists in their approach to the topic.
In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the classic works deal with these topics much better than any acclaimed modern work can, as they are likely to come from a genuine place of personal belief, where going against the mold actually represented a risk, as opposed to today where virtue signalling is the easiest and safest thing a person can do, and often exists only to score easy points.
