I am a little salty since she was hyped up enough for me to spend £25 on a hardback copy of her collected works and only really like her short stories. And I will admit I didn't like Wise Blood mainly because I have no interest in religion and I have not read the Bible either so I missed a lot of the references but still it was nowhere near anything McCullers has written.

Well yeah, Flannery's short stories are better than her novels, and her work is going to mean more to someone who is familiar with Christianity (and Catholicism in particular) than not. That's true of her short stories as well, by the way - things like The River or A Good Man is Hard to Find are made significantly more meaningful when you consider the theological implications of them.

But I recognize you don't really like short stories, so that is what it is. Again, at some point I hope you give Faulkner a try, as he is the real king of Southern literature (and novels in particular).
