When did you realize the only books you need are Shakespeare's Complete Works and the King James Bible?

Not gonna lie I only find comedic value in Shakespeare; plays are too short for me to really develop any kind of emotional connection with the characters or script so I just laugh at the funny language. "Beads of sorrow" in Julius Caesar was about the only thing I found truly poetic across the works I've read.

Also Hamlet is grotesquely overrated and not even top 5

Shakespeare can essentially be boiled down to about 2 dozen sonnets. The rest is filler.

I was reading about pioneers in the 19th century. There was an interesting anecdote about a party of fur trappers in Oregon in the 1820s. Some of them were illiterate and one of the party taught them to read. The only books they had, literally as you say OP, were the complete Shakespeare and the KJV. First of all it's wild to think about those being the only two books you've ever read, while living in the bumfuck wilderness killing beavers and dodging Indians and the French. But it's also to wild to imagine that such blue collar workers two hundred years ago were basically consuming what we today consider extremely erudite works. Anyways, that's my story

and he wasn't illiterate, he almost certainly went to the grammar school in Stratford where he would have learned Latin grammar and read classics in Latin.

You do realise that there's a major problem with the source texts, right? As in there's multiple fragmentaries, and early poor translations. And "discovered" texts? And divergent text traditions?

Jesus fuck cunt. Welcome to Theology. Prepare to be raped and burnt alive.

No KJV is fucken useless if you believe in Christ unless you're from a Cult so opposed to Jesus' message that you need to die.

KJV is a major work of 17th century poetry.
It is not representative of the source texts.

So we don't have a good documentary connection to Jesus. Sauline letters and the four canonicals plus Thomas are the earliest.

The sayings are almost certainly authentic to an esseneist political movement: but where's the Jesus?

The narrative gospels are suspicious, a major political event should be recorded. A minor political event should not be inserted in josephus.

Seriously catch up. Then there's the transmission problems.

Also Virgins aren't Authorised, nor are Handiworkers. Its essenes invading pharisee territory.
