I've read the first couple of books, and it really isn't anything special.
There really was nothing particularly significant or interesting, I only remember:
1. during the fight involving the wizards, some owl blinds a person
2. some interesting Nilfagadrian knight joins Geralt at some point
That was 2 years ago, but again, I've read Jane Eyre 5 years ago, and I don't even know what it's about, just that it's worse than Frankenstein. This is in contrast to the greats whose works I remember very well.

It's fantasy that is smarter than your usual genre fiction, has some nice archaic language that gives it a seasoned flavor, references all the classics we read in High School and it's based on Slavic folklore instead of your usual dwarves and elves for the 15th time. No idea why it's so popular outside Poland though, must be the video games.

CDPR adapted Witcher not because it would have been a guarantee of popularity but because they were also Polish and the author sold them the rights to adapt the works to a videogame for pennies. Then the game blew up and the writer sued CDPR I think because he was salty about not getting a cut of the cake.

i find the aspect of a witcher really interesting, you have a person that undergoes mutations which only a fraction of candidates survive, and those that do walk the world and slay monsters while being ostracized by all the societies, and the whole implementation of monsters from slavic folklore is also interesting

The short stories are good. A lot of the later books get bogged down by infodumping and weird diversions. Also, Sapkowski is a bit of a weirdo when it comes to sex

I thought they were pretty good. Except for that . Except for baptism of fire of whichever middle one was just an entire book of time wasting where nothing affecting the story actually happened
and it would be good if Sapkowski wasn't such a horny cunt that could think of any other motivation except secretly being in love and didn't spend so much time being a bit paedoy
