Witchgrass is hilarious. It's well worth the read. There's a funny bit where a schoolboy and a man send threatening letters to each other because the schoolboy caught the man jerking off to his mom. It's also unique because the whole novel is the narrator imagining the life of someone he sees everyday leaving work. The unknown man becomes real when he stops to notice how something changed in a display window. The novel is just hilarious and a great send-up of vices. There's a very devilish midget who annoys people by obstinately moving in with them. It's just a crazy novel.

The problem is we actually do go through phases of solid discussion on various topics. Newfags show up and there just happens be a spurt of good discussion on a topic they are interested in, they fixate on it and ignore all the shit going on in the other threads and then when that phase ends they start exploring other topics and start complaining about how it used to be better. We had a very good bit of theological discussion going on before the tradcaths showed up, they killed it and discussion on the topic with their need to be right, reduced it to a born again circle jerk.

Lasting on /lit/ without hating life requires you to accept this, there will be long periods where all you do is give the board a quick scan once a day and only posting when it is worthwhile. I can't say anything definitive really. I enjoyed reading. I enjoyed the idea of thia guy thinking he was some sort of incomplete and weird person and his paradoxical views. If I remembere right the second half is more about the main character and his sister Agathe. And no they don't fuck.

Could you expound more on this? I get this quite a bit in life. My mom has asked me multiple times if I'm gay. People who I befriend aren't sure of my sexuality and tell me it's ok to be gay. A girl (perhaps multiple girls) in high school was shocked I wasn't gay when I went to prom with a girl. I'm 25. Have had 1 girlfriend for 2 months ovee the summer when I was 16 going on 17. And have had 3 sexually charged encounter with women, each isolated events, one resulting in sex but I didn't cum. That last encounter was three years ago, and was the last time I was intimate or close with a woman in a more than business-like relation. Anon, do you understand what you're getting into when you're going to read The Making of Americans? Maybe I'm assuming too much, but if you really care so much about the cover of the book you won't buy an edition, I'm not sure what you're going to make of Gertrude Stein's prose. Have you read any Stein before? I would suggest reading Three Lives, specifically Melanctha's section and Tender Buttons before you tackle this. Although technically in terms of prose Tender Buttons goes beyond The Making of Americans. But the step from Melanctha to The Making of Americans isn't that big of a leap. I think I'll post some random pages just so you can see what you're getting into. If you already are aware, then I'm sorry for being a pedant.

A lot of women do this. They'll try to contact you again a few years after they leave you or break up. They'll do this because they're lonely and want a friend (just as a friend and nothing more) or because they want to confirm they did the right thing by leaving you. They basically want you as a pocket friend. Someone who is there whenever she needs them and can use as an emergency backup plan in case they breakup with their current boyfriend. They want that reassurance that they'll never have a moment where they're single unless it's their choice. And they'll do this with multiple guys. They don't care about you for you. They just want what you can give them.

Yes you can be friends. But you can tell if you are if conversation with them is very natural and without tension. When you feel tension, when you think you're censoring yourself to not rock the boat, when conversation feels too happy and generic, etc. You'll just know it. It's a feeling you get. Your instincts will naturally tell you. It's a feeling where your gut is telling you something is up and there is a disconnect between what you think and reality. Women have this cold blooded thing where they can act like all the intimacy you had together just never happened. Like it literally never existed.
