[ERROR] No.19110851 [Reply] [Original]

1. Less Than Zero is narrated by Clay

2. RoA is narrated primarily by Patrick Bateman's brother and a girl and a gay guy + Patrick Bateman has a single chapter near the end + Clay has a single chapter which parodies LtZ better than DFW was able to

3. American Psycho mocks RoA in the opening chapter + Tim Price (Justin Theroux from the AP film) appears in multiple chapters of The Informers

4. Glamorama is narrated by Victor, a character with 2 chapters in RoA + He dies in the last 1/6 of the book most people miss this + Mentions Lauren, one of the main narrators from RoA: “Lauren Hynde died in … December 1985 … in a car accident … outside Camden, New Hampshire.” (Right after RoA ends lol)

5. The Informers... doesn't matter... Tim Price + someone from LtZ + Sean Bateman from RoA is mentioned

6. Lunar Park is about fictionalized Ellis and loops in all his previous books + someone imitating murders from AP

7. Imperial Bedrooms is a different Clay from LtZ + claims LtZ the novel was written by someone else + mocks the movie's connection to reality + is self-contained to the LtZ characters

Did I miss anything

Based. Further evidence BEE has been writing one hyperbolized roman a clef

He's wrote a book he serialized on his podcast over the last year where another fictionalized 17yo version of him stalks some hot chad in high school who he suspects is a serial killer. He claims it is all a true story.
He said he was also writing Less Than Zero during this period and there are references to it. But nothing to suggest the characters of LTZ are based on those he's now writing. I think he just looks to prank his readers honestly.

I'm trying to forget this is happening. I am hoping he saves it before it's over. It's so cringe. It's OBVIOUSLY not a true story. I like that he called The Pale King dead on arrival or whatever, then pulls the same pomo gag as DFW, but worse.

I think it is over and he doubled down on the 'true story' claims before the end. But he did say something in the narrative in the end like "dreaming is free." I liked it but all this mystery and enigma out of something so asinine doesn't interest people anymore.

>Informers doesn't matter
That's odd considering it's his strongest work outside of AP and LtZ.

>Did I miss anything
You also missed that Imperial Bedrooms is a slog and a steaming pile of garbage. And you didn't tie White into this, even though it's essay/nonfiction.

In the Informers one of the narrators walks in a ritual chainsaw sacrifice at a Mansion party in the Hills. So yeah there's evidence in the BEE canon + Patrick Bateman.

>RoA: Patrick Bateman has a single chapter near the end
Haven't read BEE in years but I've no recollection of this.

Why do you say this?

It's Ellis' favorite of his own work.

White doesn't matter.

I'm finished The Shards right now... the finale can't possibly be worse than the rest right? Right?

It's pretty underwhelming desu

The whole thing has made clear how badly he relies on his editor. This whole thing has been a cringefest =(

He continues the parody by calling himself a writer in his twitter bio.

My thoughts exactly. The first few chapters were decent, he might've had them written in advance of the episodes, but you can tell the rest have been bashed out impromptu.

Why do you think Norm said this?

>>19112630
It reminds me of the parody of gays being overdramatic in RoA... except he's doing it... and without any humor—which is strange because you can class Glamorama and Lunar Park as Comedy/Horror.

Yeah, he seems to confront his gayness rather than being coolly detached from it like in his other works, which always made them more attractive to me. Almost like the whole thing was a metaphor for being gay. It's no coincidence that Robert is also his dad's name, perhaps he was obsessed with the dude since he resembled the ideal he wish he had shown his father.

Perhaps this has been the result of lockdown + dating a millennial. I guess it's instructive as to what NOT to do.

The thing that stung the most was Tarantino commenting on it lol

It's a shame to see his fall from grace, but that's modern authorship for you anyway. At least his books got me back into reading as a teen/college student and they spoke to the mood I was in at the time.

Was never a fan of his 2nd person writing style

Maybe he'll Rob Zombie himself into a hit horror movie like RZ did with Devil's Rejects. Can only hope...

The plot of The Canyons was pretty good, just the execution was botched. Smiley Face Killers was pretty bad all around but I could see what he was going for...

>>19114500
I think there's only one part in RoA where it switches to 2nd person for a while. I also like when the narrator gets called the wrong name, they just switch to 3rd person narration with that name.

Or are you thinking of Bright Lights, Big City by McInerney? That's a fun book.
