how do i get a library card?
so basically i always buy all the books i need/want but right now i don't have access to my books that are in storage 2000 miles away. also i don't have a car, but luckily there's a library like a 5 minute walk from where i'm squatting. can you just go in and ask for a library card or what? how does it work? do you have to be a resident of the town or state? are they going to background check me?

Just walk up to the librarian, say "I would like to apply for a library card", and provide your ID if they ask for it. If they ask about your ID just say you're working on getting a more current version. It's not that difficult, most librarians are chill and will help you out.

they'll ask for an invoice or whatever other proof of address
some might just give you one if you pay a fee

Unless you're borrowing books from the vatican, they won't care for your background. They most likely ask for your card for overdue books.

Just go to a homeless shelter you bum. They have showers and as long as you're not a junkie they'll help you get an actual place to stay and a library card.
