I have asked in a few places and realized that /lit/ might be able to help me out. I read the sticky first and I think my thread is allowed.

This is my first time on /lit/ and I want to read whatever book this is.

probably going to be quite ahrd to trace then,m seems to be a grass cover (butterfly's on the bottom right?) wiuth a cow as the centre, the wat the words are at the top is quite strange, it seems to be a very long title

you're best off asking one of her friends, asking her, or checking the top 20 in your local big company bookstore for something similar

I'm pretty sure that is not a Penguin Classic. The background color on the spine and the front cover appears to be white. Even very old Penguin Classics didn't have that color scheme.

It looks to me like a used paperback published by Picador UK. White background with black lettering down the center of the spine.

That's a Picador paperback of Cormac McCarthy from 1998. Look at the spine and the lettering. Do you see why I think the book she's holding is a Picador paperback? The right length too, for the sort of novels they publish.

I am stoked to read it. The Grapes of Wrath was one of the assigned reads as a kid that I actually enjoyed. It actually had a large impact on my political leanings and social stance as an adult. I read Of Mice and Men too but never read East of Eden. Looking at the description briefly on Wikipedia it sounds like I have been fucking up all these years by not reading it, they say Steinbeck considered it his Magnum Opus.
