it's just alright
it's fun if you've seen the movie since the book actually changes the structure and ends differently. still, quentin's a pretty mediocre book writer, i'm sure his scripts are better but i found some of the book pretty grating by the end.

>> No.19077308

>>19077285
How does the novel end?

>> No.19077325

>>19077308
the book is non-linear and jumps back and forth like quentin's films, the ending of the movie happens in a flashforward during the second chapter of the book. the book itself ends with rick rehearsing his lines for the western show with the little girl over the phone and the two promising that they'll impress everyone on set the next day, which they do. it's probably hacky and schmaltzy to most people, but it got to me desu.

ah, that's too bad. I expected there would be a different ending for sharon tate or something.

Thanks to you two for being gentlemen and adding those spoiler alerts

>> No.19077391

>>19077355
my memory's fuzzy but there are a lot of flashforwards to events that happen years later past the movie and book. it does mention that rick becomes friends with sharon and roman and even gets a bigger career revival after the hippie incident and gets a weekly spot on johnny carson, book's worth a read for those moments alone
i always thought the movie was mid-tier for tarantino, but a lot of people seem to like it and quentin seems to fucking love it. he even wants to write a follow-up book about the western show and a stage play, so i'm sure this isn't the end for any of the characters

So it's a collection of scenes occurring between the ones that were included in the film?

>> No.19077419

>>19077398
no, it still tells the film's story, but there's a lot of added shit and backstories/flashforwards with it. tarantino said it's a "complete rethinking" of the movie, i wouldn't really say that, but if you've seen the movie it's worth reading to see what was changed/redone
sorry if i'm doing a shitty job explaining it

>> No.19077427

I don't think Tarantino has any literary talent. In fact, i think, he doesn't possess the talent to tell a story straight without panicking into useless details(the sign of a substance-less writer or filmmaker). Mostly, it's just him showing off childish tangentail HOLLYWOOD lines and utter kitsch which he feels will become legendary someday like Bogart or something. Remarkable how he still has a job. He'd have been jobless a long time ago had he been French. But the academy is a bunch of buffoons so they keep appreciating his "writing".

The only decent writer in Hollywood is PTA. And he died after he wrote TWWB. Pynchon should've never allowed him to direct IJ.

If you really liked the movie and want to learn more about the characters it's worth it. It was a pretty easy read, I finished it in 2 days. Had some interesting things in there. Tarantino is supposed to be working on a few more projects related to the movie & book, will be interesting to see where he goes with it all.

I've looked at a few of his scripts and the writing is really bad outside of the dialogue

I enjoyed the movie because it's the only time ever that the taboo of Bruce Lee getting his ass kicked ever happened. It was a sacred cow and it got slaughtered.

they should have put this girl's feet on the cover, at least put both of them, or just let all the pictures feet

Have you read many scripts? In my opinion of the few I’ve bothered reading, they’re all kind of badly written and vague

american movies are so boring and worthless now that p much almost every other country outside of africa (even that's changing) has a well established film industry
