Thoughts on this? I personally cannot read without having a bit of background noise, and when I write I blast the music loud, but that's not important right now.
For people who need a little quiet and non-distracting music on while they read: what do you normally leave on? Calm ambient, Gamelan, baroque music, Erik Satie, etc. all welcome, as long as it's useful for background noise. The more lethargic and quieter the better.
Pic unrelated, Beethoven's music isn't good for background noise (it's too complex and great to ignore).

I prefer the sound of rain or maybe a fireplace. There are a lot of videos with that type of sound and even custom generators.
But look up chamber music or quartets for a genre very much designed after your goals.

While making that sampler I noticed 3/4 of them are arrangements or reimaginings of Vivaldi.

I always prefer total silence and even the slightest noise annoys me. Same when I sleep. I am very stressed when I go to stores because the music always annoys me and I can't tune it out (I think it's because I was a musician for a long time). My perfect idle living environment would be a sensory isolation tank in a cloistered monastery in the middle of a forest.

Minimalism is literally worse than pop music, because pop at least doesn't waste your time if it's shitty. It's telling how insecure you are if you think only an elitist/pseud could think bad of minimalshit.

I'm just calling you ?both? out for being pseuds. Personally, I find quite a bit of minimalist music pretentious and generally unlistenable (John Adams especially). Minimalism attracts pseuds from both sides--those who want to overintellectualize it and those like yourselves; offering up a contrived opinion based on a shallow read that's been around for +50 years as if its demonstrative of your discerning taste.

If you don't like minimalism--fine (strangers honestly don't care, no matter how impressed you imagine us to be). However, if you go around shitting up a board with contrived "personal" opinions regarding something as subjective as musical tastes to read by--expect to be called pseuds.

I'm going to enjoy some music and a nice novel. Pseuds.

How many times do you reread the same page of a novel before moving on to the next one? I usually do it five to ten times, but once I read the same page the whole day, read it 102 times, it was truly a sublime feeling.

FYI: When someone predicts what the basis of your takes are before you present them--it's a pretty good indication you're a pseud.

>>literally...literally...literally...
"Literally" is a disfluency stupid people use when: a) they don't have a firm take on something so their ego tells them to present it to others as self-evident or b) they mean figuratively and are too dumb to come up with a decent analogy. Speaking of bad analogies...
