Obligatory Scary stories to tell in the dark. Vibe is very autumnal.

Some of the goosebumps books are really kino in a way that's hard to describe. Other than that, I'll try and dig through the myriad books I've read to find obscure, lesser-known ones with a strong fall atmosphere.

Great book--EXCEPT for the stupid "updates"
I think today's readers can "handle" the fact that a book was written several decades ago--they DON'T need the author to go back and change, e.g., "a letter" to "an email" or "a typewriter" to "a computer." Yet, apparently, Lois Duncan has "updated" ALL of her books in this fashion--because she thinks no one will read these novels otherwise? Summer of Fear is a solid, "young adult"-horror story, with a compelling plot and interesting characters. The current version is marred, though, by the author's silly "revisions."

Can someone recommend me a book to help someone believe there's hope left in the world, especially in human nature and spirit, if possible? Sorry for asking here, but it feels too insignificant for its own thread.

If you want something that’s kind of comfy (his book October Country gets thrown around a lot in these kinds of threads), check out Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury.

Call of the Crocodile is perfect. 90 percent of the book takes place on Halloween
