It's not really "the lgbt crowd" that's the problem per se. What I think is really happening is that political differences are more and more about *how* parties mobilize voters rather than real policy differences between them. Right-wing parties appeal to social conservatism, and left-wing parties (or formerly left ones) have become dominated by urban professionals and they combine the neoliberalism that supports their incomes and lifestyles with social liberalism.

So, there are trans people, women, ethnic minorities etc. who are struggling, but select and privileged members of those groups become "faces in high places" rather than changing the economic system that is actually causing the living standards of people in the majority of these "minority" groups to worsen. Along with the living standards of the majority of people, generally.

The right also "plays its part" by declaring culture war crusades, rotating between various minority "outgroups" to focus their voters on hating and/or fearing, which also provokes those minority groups to organize politically. For example, I think the right ends up generating an organized trans "movement" before one really existed, because the right need the spectre of one to mobilize their own voters, too, while the trans people who take part in these things feel like it's necessary as a way of protecting themselves. If you're a conservative, they've got you hooked on hating trans people who are mostly living in shitty apartments and working shitty jobs and don't really have any impact on your life.
