The book of Job is the most overated book of the bible. Athiest and midwit Christians are mysteriously attracted to it. The ending is fine but what I am annoyed by is the prevalent idea that it

"was a heckin paradigm shift bro, before Job people assumed that if bad things happened to you you were a bad person!"

The book doesn't disprove this at all, God frequently punishes people and cultures in the bible for their sins, and the reason given by the text is retarded if that's what the message is supposed to be? God made a bet with Satan but are the thousands of people suffering terrible misfortune in their lives supposed to assume that God has just been making thousands more bets or something?

Also the actual story is just boring and dragged out, Job has these huge monologues which is just him saying brooooooo i didn't do nuffin whyyy and his friends saying um you probably did though...

The book of Exodus is truly the most overrated and it makes Jews seethe when you tell them none of it is real and their history is made up

>Faith for Gain is the Beginning of Atheism
As the Book of Job reveals, Job was a pious man who claimed that he would not abandon his faith in God no matter what trials he faced. Then the devil said to God “even pious Job would lose faith in God if he experiences so much unhappiness” and he brings unheard of unhappiness to Job. The devil kills all of Job’s livestock, kills his family, and makes Job ill with disease. Finally Job begins to hate God.

Then God says to Job “do you know how the world began? How I created Man and how I created the world? You don’t. So you have no right to pass judgment on God.” This point is very important.
...
In the end, most religions are becoming more centered on the gain of the individual, and people believe in it if it profits them, but don’t if it does not. This is where atheism begins. People feel as if God betrayed them if their faith didn’t bring gains. They think they believed and prayed, but unhappiness fell upon them anyway, and therefore ‘God ignores us’, ‘God is silent’ and ‘God is dead’.

>Don't fret Job, I was merely proving a point to satan, I'm proud of you and will reward you greatly!
I never doubted you lord, does that mean you'll bring my family back from the dead?
>Lol no, they're dead forever and there's no afterlife. But I will give you a bigger and better family!
B-but i miss my old wife, and my kids.
>Bro its fine, your new wife will be way hotter with huge tits. Your new kids will be super cool too.
Oh... thanks. Praise be to God I guess.

No one, and I mean *no one*, who knows more than a tiny bit about literature thinks this. The striking poetic originality of Job compared to the rest of the Bible cannot be denied.

I think you've been blinded by Eastern mysticism. The Bible states that God does in fact reward the righteous, and Job was indeed given back ten times what he had lost. There is nothing wrong with expecting a just reward.

Let's not pretend that we don't prefer certain people over others. If God says she was better for him, then she must have been truly better for him.

That the people who wrote the Bible couldn't come up with a satisfying explanation of why terrible things happen to good people, so they sockpuppeted God as saying "I don't have to explain anything"?

Probably Numbers or one of the really short ones, although Song of Solomon tends to get ignored by most churches for obvious reasons.

No way. I'd personally say Daniel. And Jonah can't be overrated, it's too good.
