Who is better RC Waldun or Jack Kerouac? In all honesty and why.

He’s more well-read, more honest, more observant and more original than Walden, just for starters

>> No.18958464

>>18957858
Kerouac is by far better than Waldun. Even if he is largely juvenile and shallow, he could still write a few decent lines when he was on his stride. Kerouac wrote with a vision that he failed to reach. Waldun has no vision beyond passing as an erudite dandy. Any of the Beats would laugh at him.

I think if you read him at length it becomes apparent he's not very well-read at all. I'd say he attempts to be honest, but continually misreads the situation.
I've never read Waldun I started this thread just to talk about Kerouac though :D.

Here's my thoughts on his bibliography, which I recently completed:

Town and City (Only Skimmed, written normally, honestly bad, very bad. No discernible style)
On the Road (decent, pretty bad in parts.)
Doctor Sax (nonsense, unreadable)
Maggie Cassidy (decent, cozy, but forgettable)
Subterreans (good, but ultimately incredibly self-unaware)
Tristessa (Probably his best work)
Visions of Gerard (decent, forgettable though)
Dharma Bums (Very bad, would be decent if he didn't have the insufferable Buddhism/wisdom rants)
Desolation Angels (decent, bad in parts though)
Big Sur (On further evaluation: his best, decent overall, kind of pathetic. Everything from here on, excluding Pic is much better than his early work, aside from Subterreans and Tristessa)
Satori in Paris (good, one of his best, he’s very senile here)
Vanity of Duluoz (decent, kind of pathetic)
Pic (pretty bad)

Ranking
1. Big Sur
2. Tristessa
3. Subterreans
4. Satori in Paris
5. Vanity of Duluoz
6. Desolation Angels
7. Visions of Gerard
8. Maggie Cassidy
9. Dharma Bums
10. On the Road
11. Pic
12. Doctor Sax
13. Town and the City

Visions of Cody (horrific, skip)
Mexico City Blues (bad)
Scripture of Golden Eternity (horrific, skip)
Old Angel Midnight (bad)
Lonesome traveler (bad)
Book of dreams (bad)
Book of Blues (bad)

Fair/balanced prediction:
>The Writing will be decent on a technical level.
Jay can write well as can Jaidyn. Now, that doesn't mean the writing will be great or anything but those 2 are at least capable of stringing together words. I don't think we'll see the level of nonsensical storytelling we were subjected to in L'Academie (plus TATTTC is journaling/Jay's travel writing so they won't be responsible for creating a world--only reporting on one). They'll reproduce a writing style they love but without personalizing it and making it they're own (i.e. at most it will be an ornamental homage to "muh Kerouac" sans anything interesting in itself).
>The content will be ok
Lots of mediocre art is elevated by the real-life shit that inspired it (e.g. the writing in Schindler's List is a mediocre morality play elevated by the subject matter it deals with). The normies did their homework by going around talking to mentally ill societal outcasts and odds are their takes will appeal to other normies. My prediction here is that the bare content, the reportage itself, will carry more weight than anything these guys have to say about it. Their takes will be contrived--there will be little to bring the actual character of the freaks/loners they've encountered. Basically, we'll see superficial interactions and shallow takes expressed by way of purple prose.

The deeper, more literary, meaning of their work will lie in just how out of touch they are with actual suffering.

>Redpill me on Harold Sand in The Subterraneans.
He's a beta that wastes his night trying to fuck the girl that is with kerouac, so then he drives them to a rich middle-aged gay mens house where Kerouac starts crying in the bedroom because he's sad, and Kerouac's girl starts cuddling with Gregory Corso, and Gaddis and the gay guy are sperging about musical records and books they've read and the architecture in Europe. The next day Gaddis drives all 3 of them (the girl, Corso, Kerouac) to the train station so they could get home to change before a party that the gay men will be at. He offers to just drive them, but they want to take the train for some reason.
Kerouac also regularly cheats on his gf by having sex with men in the novel, so when he first sees Gaddis he's very drunk and attracted to him.

>"Well, there's a lesson to be learned here, that's for sure..."
The immortal words of Clark Elieson. The man who backstabbed a preciously precocious young man named Waldun. His lizard fetish was exposed to the world and his reaction was to pretend he didn't know what people were talking about, respond in order to explain it wasn't funny and not getting to him, and then delete his initial comments as well as his Instagram because "his brand isn't about him."

On the other side, you have The Melbourne Movement. Jaidyn, the shy one, remained mostly silent but put out his first YouTube video in the middle of the maelstrom. Waldun looked inward and acknowledged his hubris (if not his pretentious ways, but he's still a young man) and decided to leave his art out there but donate the proceeds it generates to a literary charity. Jay, the wanderer, went on to publish a travelogue he composed with the others--all the while voicing support for the best aspects of Waldun's character and only mildly admonishing those aspects of the critics which actually deserved it.

This is the epilogue. Until next time...
