It's like Chrischan all over again, yeah it was funny to see at first and whoever discovered him did the world a big favor, but some people just couldn't let it go, and it became this downward spiral of human behavior where barely-above-chrischan-tier autists began provoking chrischan into increasingly degenerate behavior, never quite realizing that although they were technically "above" him in society, their obsession with his antics ensured that they would go down a notch in dignity every time he did. Waldun wrote a shitty book. The book was terrible and it was amusing to criticize it. You can learn a lot about writing by analyzing bad literature. Nothing wrong with that.

But you guys are arguing over the thread number and the OP image. Really ask yourself what you might accomplish if you applied that level of focus and concern to your personal lives. Like imagine you saw a cute girl out in public and you put as much thought into coming up with a funny compliment for her as you did into "burning" a pretentious pseud for internet compliments. Going back to the Chrischan thing, I had completely forgotten about him until the recent controversy, all I remembered was that he was a crazy autist who would do anything, anything at all, so long as someone else told him it was cool. And then I saw the news, and I listened to the recording of what's-her-face, and she actually said "christory" as if that was a real word. I'm not entirely sure how to describe the feeling I got. Just this... sort of really sad feeling knowing that enough people had pegged their own self-esteem to chrischan's neverending downward dive into complete degeneracy, which they themselves had encouraged him to take, that they had actually developed their own vocabulary.

Just take a step back. Go find a mirror. Look at it and repeat "Before I make another post mocking Waldun, I will..." and then finish the sentence with some kind of productive endeavor, like applying for a better job or doing a quick chore or something. Or even just reading a page in a book or drinking a full glass of water. Anything at all besides letting yourself become another "christorian"

KD's review was a good ending point. These threads don't need to continue especially now that they're just gossip and not even ironic book discussion.

There's something really literary about Waldun's circumstances. As >>18929440 said, there's this aspect of rebelion of what he was meant to be (as the son of Asian immigrants) that fits well with the spirit of the Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
