Was Plato's opinion on love genuine or just a result of the deep hatred the Greeks held for women?

What was Plato's opinion on love? As far as I know he only cared about it as a stepping stone to falling in love with imaginary 'forms'. What an anaemic freak! To spurn real beauty, and love imagined beauty!

Gross pic, mate...I doubt Plato harbored real hatred for women, their generic inferiority is presumed, not demonstrated. Roman poets (Martial, Catullus, etc) were harsher. If we're describing his appreciation of the arts, we know that he disdained all representative works (by attempting to fashion a work using the beautiful, you only caricature it).
