I love the “books are not good enough for forming strong personal opinions” he wrote in a book. Classic

Schopenhauer once said that reading too much made you stupid.

Yeah, Cicero, the meek young man defending lost cause controversial cases as a lawyer, serving in government as a goad to political elites in a time where any politician was vulnerable to assassination, traveled widely and, as far as mere language is concerned, established the parameters for persuasive, moving and engaging language more than perhaps anybody in history... not to mention his ideals laying dormant, flourishing as the Renaissance. Of course, any donwtime could be excused by having a lifelong infirmity. What did Emerson do again? Like, single-handedly liberate a country or something?

Only retards who believe in personality cults think deeds like this were done by single men, and that circumstances never played a part.

Statement: they were young men in the libraries and, it's clearly implied, that's the origin of their wisdom.
Reality: Cicero's earliest works were transcriptions of court cases, later works written as an old man, nor was he meek man in a library when young.

There is nothing to comprehend about what Emerson is saying (except the general sentiment of, as noted above, his gentle and accordingly inane just-be-yourselfism) because it's so ignorant and discordant with historical facts freely available to anybody for the last 500 years.

Self Reliance is just petty bourgeois non-sense and puritan apologia for capitalism. Americans always speak of "individualism" when their "individualism" has been nothing but a fraud. Americans are privileged labor aristocrats who believe their good fortunate come honest work. We all know that's an honest lie; its just a product of slavery, genocide and US imperialism.

All of America is stolen land. All the resources, firms, most of the people on it are colonizers larping as proletarians. America the home of the lazy and parasitic.
