My dad listens to audiobooks in the car all the time and he keeps giving me his favorites. He's way into normiecore stuff like James Patterson, Clive Cussler, etc. and they're not bad but they're clearly written for an audience of average people. I got him Tree of Smoke on CDs for Christmas and he said the writing was good but he couldn't follow the plot at all. I'm a huge snob and it's alienating me from my family.

I'm known for having a wide base of knowledge in philosophy and regularly seek out conversations about philosophy, but I actually just skim the wikipedia article of concepts and philosophers and bullshit my way through it very well

I’ve read all of his work. It was a hell of a good time. I’m learning French right just to read Wind-up Bird again in French. The French translation doesn’t cut parts like the English translation. And no, I’m not interested in spending 10 years of my life learning Japanese. By then I’ll be fluent in all Romance languages.

I hate long books. If you can tell a story in 200-300 pages, why write 800? I know it's me and I'm ngmi but that doesn't make it any less of an annoyance.

I think most of the acclaim for 'classics' is confirmation bias. If it were possible to do 'blind' tests, as they do for violins or wine, the classics would fare no better than modern books

Could be worse. For me coke just makes my face numb. I've never noticed any other effect. Weed just makes me paranoid. Opioids seem to wear off much faster than everybody else. Hallucinogens barely do more than trails. Drugs have been rather disappointing. Only exstacy seems to work as promised. Oh and alcohol is pretty fun but not worth the hangovers.
