After reading the illuminating works of the visionary-philosopher-turned-writer R. Scott Bakker, I finally embraced my sexuality. Raw anal sex with stray dogs was all I needed to feel complete in life. I seek to explore more of this newfound experience, like my favourite character Omarhabib Kellus!

I'm halfway through the first book and absolutely nothing about the cental plot is explained and the lore is dispensed with the casuality of some overexcited RPG GM. What the fuck are the religions and how do they work, why do Tusk niggas hate Fanim niggas, whats their cultures like, how do they look, what are Schools, who and how are they governed by, how do they differ from one another etc give me at least some nitty gritty not just grandiose statements about the nature of humanity. im working on my 3rd draft now.
i had it originally as a slow burn, but decided adding more suspense and internal push and pull instead of ending it off as a tragedy with no cathartic ending after a character death.
i did that to leave the question of if the MC will prevail afterwards, but with the suspense added, i feel i should give him catharsis and get back at the enemy.
my problem comes in with what the climax would even be anymore, because i already had his emotional developmental climax before the character death, to then question his values (and the readers) with the character death.
but if i give him catharsis afterwards it would be a second climax. both of them would be happening in the last 20% of the story too. it doesnt feel right.

so for the moment, im stuck. im unsure how to give him or the reader catharsis, and the character death was supposed to be the ending, but i dont think i can have my cake and eat it too.

i suppose i can add the intrigue, suspense, and whatever else as i planned, but end with the character death still and not to continue past it.

im probably being too vague, so if any initial advice doesn't seem to help ill just drop a link to the draft, its just too long that i doubt anyone would read it. about 10000 words at he moment, and ill probably add 2 more scenes after what i considered writing this message.

Honestly, after learning more about him, this is the correct assessment. He was dropped because he's insufferable to work with. he has an ego the size of Quebec, and a personality to go along with the worst of them. he refused to meaningfully edit the aspect-emperor series, wastes years and thousands of dollars in delays and plot dead-ends, ends up copying/pasting things from his earlier books and changing up some of the words with a thesaurus. then proceeds to try to mainline cannibal holocaust into the series and acts offended that it's not a commercial success.

Then he basically hides away teaching community college because he can't finish his fucking phD, periodically masturbates while screeching about drumpf on his disastrous blog, and to top it all off, likely got addicted to painkillers for a time.

Both are bad choices. Branch out and read something from a different genre.
There's legitimately plenty of self published shit that's better than both of those series. That isn't a high bar and the quality of self pubbed stuff is pretty bad, but at least it's not *that* bad.

More focus is on pointless world-building than the actual stories. This ties into the bloat, but the cast of characters is enormous for the sake of being enormous and you won't give a shit about the vast majority of them. The YAS KWEEN SLAYing gradually becomes very obnoxious. If you're a big fan of bloated epic grimderp fantasy then go ahead and read it. All I'm saying is when I read the series it was the first time I had to skim through entire pages; not paragraphs, but PAGES. There are sections where you can literally skip a dozen or more pages and still know perfectly well what's happening without anything major happening in those skipped-over pages.

One example I'll give you: in the last book I believe an extremely minor character does something major in the story and it happens in the middle of a huge battle and the writer decided that THIS was the best time to give us the absolutely useless backstory to this almost pointless character. And it goes on for PAGES. I was actually stunned when it happened because it came across like something you'd see in a comedy movie.

Pretty much. Westeros is very likely linked to the northern polar icecap either by land or a massive sheet of ice. Turns out the planet of A song of Ice and Fire is only 8% larger than our own world and the world is a sphere just under 27,000 miles in circumference, meaning that all the lands we know account for just over a quarter of the world’s total surface. Far more lands, maybe even continents larger than Westeros, may lie across the Sunset Sea or beyond Asshai.

All of these are partly true.
He made it up as he went along, wove way too many threads, introduced way too many characters, couldn't figure out what to do with the old ones. Say what you want about the show, but at least they wrapped everything up albeit in the stupidest way possible for every single character– the showrunners finished the story. GRRM has way too much time invested in his characters and factions and history and world and he would rather just stroll through its myriad corners than efficiently finish what he's started.

only possible answer is the most obvious one
>deep lore ahead<
tyrion, aka rhaego targaryen, (time traveling son of dany and drogo), is azor ahai, and must reset the simulation, as the entire world is inside a fractal crystal within the domain of an eldritch void entity in the Lovecraft universe. also, ned is a pigeon.

>be /sffg/ poster
>open up the newly released volume 13 of your favorite series: Mist-Sisters of Yanub
>picks up from the perspective of Sharloong in the city of Yallalng, Hoogoo province, Kingdom of Hghibi
>Sharloong is just a guard
>wow! a guard! that's relatively mundane for a fantasy series... but it's SUCH a great perspective from which to worldbuild and you can slip in SO many "something weird happens but the protagonist responds to it as if its normal" jokes
>chapter 2 Sharlong is guarding duchess Hibiwibi
>long conversation about how women are, like, the only ones really holding society together while men are manipulated too easily with sex
>chapter 3, Herloong has a hot lesbian sex scene with the duchess
>chapter 4, Herloong is standing guard when a shadowy figure appears from midair and murders the duchess!!!
>wait... the assassin is Yhumhuk from volume 4!
>he hasn't appeared since he went his own way from The Party after teaching Sarah (one of the deuteragonists) the art of short-range teleportation over a 5-year training period in the mountains (this of course was passed over via a time-skip)
>he isn't explicitly referred to by name so you jizz your pants because you got the subtle reference
>Hoorloong goes literally grimdark insane because the duchess was murdered and Yhumhuk escaped
>10k civilians massacred
>you have to put the book down because it's getting too intense for you
>jeez... this author isn't shying away from the big issues...
>open r/fantasy to post about it
>somebody points out that Herlloong was actually present as an orphan in the prequel volume 12.5 (700 pages, only published as an ebook)
>wait.... you didn't know that 12.5 existed because it was only announced by the author in a post on r/transbian that 50 people saw
>you curse yourself for being so negligent and vow never to let this happen again
>you pay $30 to download the ebook
>the font in the .pdf is comic sans, but that's ok because you're in it for substance, not style
>it's kino: first 300 pages literally just The Party chilling out in le taverns, exploring le dungeons, etc
>"Zingo ducked behind a boulder and yelled 'infurnuam', sending a barrage of binary fireballs out of his palm and into the dark depth of the cavern. 'holy fuck!' yelled Zingo."
>you pause
>at first this sentence appears to be just another of the author's sublime proses but something halts your eyes on the final period, your focus drilling into its black emptiness as you struggle to become conscious of whatever incongruity triggered your subconscious alarm bells
>when did Zingo learn to shoot binary fireballs? Wasn't he only skilled enough to shoot normal ones?
>but then he did find a plasmatechnics amulet 100 pages prior and the author is always so careful to leave things unsaid so that readers could read between the lines
>you go on discord and PM IceLionessGoddess the foremost Mist-Sisters of Yanub plasmatechnics expert and official Mist-Sisters of Yanub fandom administrator

>you check her twitter, her pinned tweet is a suicide note denouncing TERFs and the British NHS
>you're on your own
>you go to your bookmarks and open up the official Mist-Sisters of Yanub lore bible (available for free on the author's website)
>it's written in one of the author's invented languages: Goobeesi
>you haven't got a great grasp on Goobeesi so you grab the fan-written Goobeesi dictionary (purchased at a con last year) off your bookshelf
>the dictionary entries are not in alphabetical order so progress is slow
>thank luna that about half document you need, 'On The Geometry of Magic Artifacts Influencing Plasmatechnics and Biotechnics Relative to Mana Entropy and Mana Structure, Comparative Analysis of Dark Elves, Humans, Dwights,' is equations and diagrams so you can manage well enough with a scrappy TL
>you're going over the proofs when you get a disord notification
>IceLionessGoddess is okay, she received medical treatment in time and is well on the way to recovering from her tylenol overdose
>she informs you that the author has acknowledged the various inconsistencies in the magic system noticed by readers of 12.5 and so has made the first half of the book non-canon
>IceLionessGoddess links you a fanfic endorsed by the author as a supplement to the expunged segment
>you groan at the prospect of having to read a 4.3 million word fanfic before you can enjoy volume 13 of your favorite fantasy series
