Ignore Woolf, she was a Bipolar lesbian and wrote about vermicious lesbites - her only worthwhile efforts are in her diaries, where she frequently lambasted contemporaries, Joyce most notably. The digs at Silas Weir Mitchell especially exemplify her hyperprivileged outlook and "Woman Knows Best" attitude in Mrs Dalloway.

This is a book for middle aged people, and specifically that period in England, this isn’t a bad thing at all if it clicks with you. Wodehouse does the same thing, it’s just he does it for laughs.
It’s also done in stream of consciousness, something highly lauded in Joyce. So if this all bothers you, steer clear of Joyce.
You also seem to have a problem with long sentences. Stick to modern scifi, I guess.
