Does your town have a public book shelf? They are pretty common in German cities, but I am wondering if that's just a regional phenomenon.
Basically they are public shelfs where you bring books youdon't think you will read again, or don't have the space for, or you don't want anymore for whatever reason, and in return you can also just take some books from the shelf. There is no one maintaining these shelfs, they are just kinda there, out in the open. As expected, they are mostly filled with crappy housewife novels or children's books, but you sometimes find some gems in there.

If you have them near you, what are the best finds you have made in a public bookshelf? I got a very pretty version of Camus' Stranger, and recently a bunch of Schiller plays from one.

They are rather common in Slovenia, most of them smaller sized but the capital has a few larger ones as well. I've noticed it's also becoming more popular for people to make their own and hang it either on their house wall or next to the road.
Sadly most of the books in them are unwanted promotion ones that most households already have or popular books that got plenty of reprints. It's still possible to find something rarer like Mishima (found the Sound of Waves once) for example but it's a good start for those who are only starting reading since it's not hard to find books such as War and Piece, Crime and Punishment and other popular titles

There's a public phone booth in my town that was converted to this. It was filled with magazines, shitty freebie comics that came with cereals in the 90s, used coloring books for kids, random catalogues and other literal trash. All the books had been taken out last time I saw it, I assume to clean up due to a rapemigrant nigger taking a shit in it because it's full of niggers everywhere now and they literally shit in the streets, ruining the already squalid environment of this garbage town. In any case, of course the overall quality of these things is not sustainable, as people tend to take out the good and put in the bad.

The best public shelves tend to be near universities, where lit students put in books they just bought for one seminar. Then again, a lot of literature at unis tends to be distributed digitally nowadays, so who knows how long that rule holds.

A very interesting reinterpretation where Helen just doesn't want to go back to Greece because she's disgusted by the achaean's barbarous behavior. Pretty common in Texas, but only in the center city neighborhoods where people actually walk sometimes. Pretty kino, a guy down my street maintains one in front of his townhome and I've used it a few times.

Once you get even kind of far from downtown the people into your typical ignorant, fat suburbanite fentanyl-americans. So most Texans probably aren't aware this is a thing.

That's also a thing here. We had a little community thing going where people left books in the laundrette during peak corona, then this tiny woman in a headscarf started coming round and sweeping it. Pretty sure she just sells then by the kg for pulping.

Basically, even here you have to look for richer nieghbourhoods.

That's my experience too, borderline pornographic romance books and airport novels. The most interesting thing I've ever found in one was a college prep writing book that went over advanced grammar and writing techniques and how to properly write essays.

I almost wouldn't even bother in North America. If you put something nice in there, some hustlegrinder would take it and resale it. There's a ridiculous amount of people who are fucking desperate to scalp anything for a few extra bucks.

Well, if they allow themselves to be pillaged, they kinda deserved it desu. It's not like nobody warned them that this would happen if they let refugees in. I like their fantasyland, but if it cannot handle reality, it'll fall.

it's 80 years of indoctrination.
Europeans have been systematically taught to believe they have to be docile because they are the big baddies who've hurt the entire world of peaceful living beautiful BIPOCs in tune with nature.
Nationalism is LITERALLY equated to nazism in every corner of Europe.
Every lefty and leftist party calls any even slightly right-leaning party contemporary nazis and will literally call you satan himself if you dare suggest multiculturalism or immigration is to blame for the fact that our streets are far less safe and crime has gone up decade after decade

Crime has actually gone down decade after decade, Anon.

>Europeans have been systematically taught to believe they have to be docile because they are the big baddies who've hurt the entire world of peaceful living beautiful BIPOCs in tune with nature.
I feel like you are extrapolating American doctrine onto Europe here. No one here is educated about niggers being in tune with nature or whatever.
