So, I bought it hoping that it'll make reading easier for me, but this book seems incredibly sophisticated. Did I fall for a meme?

I can't really relate to your struggle, but if you want to get better at reading you should focus on something you're actually interesting in/passionate about. Read and use the contents of this book as you require them, instead of reading it all at once. It may contain useful information, but it's an absolute bore and it will be tortuous to read if you don't have the motivation.
I don't know how hard it is for you to read, but I'd advice you to pick a book that challenges you but doesn't get you stuck, where you can read passages and get part of their meaning but are left with the feeling that you're missing something. Then use this guide to go through it more systematically.

Truthfully, though, the only way to get better at reading is to launch yourself head-first into it.

You have to read "How to read how to read a book" by Adler

Because you speak the language in which they are written?

Fell for the meme. Now write a "How to not read a book and stick to /lit/ threads" /lit/ thread.

It's genuinely worth the time and effort. Get the audiobook it helps get through it. This book will help you get the most out of any book.

We have this thread every day and the responses are always the same.

This book does not make it easier to read other books in fact I think it adds more 'homework' to reading a book. If I were to summarize the book it would be tips on how to look for deeper meaning than what is on the surface of the page, to really absorb the book. The book states that doing this is actually harder than just reading the words and more time-consuming but as you practice reading you should be able to become a better reader doesn't mean you'll be faster though.

A few chapters are worth reading, but yeah, the rest is a reference book.

the reading list from it is excellent. you should not be allowed to post here unless youve read the entire list

Read Susan Wise Bauer's The Well-Educated Mind instead. It's the same thing, basically, but it holds you by the hand and walks you step by step and not as complex as Adler's book.
