What am I in for?

It is worth a read I enjoyed it. It can be depressing and it is like dazai/mishima lite when it comes to clash of culture but has some real good aspects.
Not perfect but not a bad read and gives you feels at times.

It's just a melancholy look at a depressed girl, and the only slightly less depressed young man trying to support her. It's moving, especially if you have someone close to you who has been depressed or suicidal.
Also featuring MILF and some other chick that doesn't really matter.

Because he's popular or because he's just not that great? A qt at my local bookstore was reading something by him and I was considering reading it to have something to talk about

I dropped the book after he met that second girl, it's boring. Nicely written but boring and doesn't interest something like me, an eternal virgin.
And yes, I skipped the sex scenes.

Murakami translations are generally terrible. Even struggling it through with an N3 would be closer to the actual book than reading it in English.

It’s not the most impressive work I ever read but it had an emotional impact on me when I finished it and I can’t say that for many books. Also a very cozy read.

A comfy and melancholic read. I liked it, others didn't. It is worth a read imo

i gifted this book to my sister a while back and she said it was one of the best she has ever read

is it really that lewd

>> No.18815911

I don't like its YA aspects and writing style as well as the obscure shit like randomly hooking up with that piano teacher. Lots of feels though

Don't waste your time on it, it's really bad. It's a book for 14 year old girls.

It hit fairly hard when I read it as a 28 year old man. Wish I read it earlier. It is not a classic, but I really liked the book.

>> No.18815948

>easily the most erotic of his novels

Why does that matter?

His books are easy to read, slighty better than YA or typical "woman" reading. Sometimes weird metaphysical stuff, and sometimes just simple romance and real life. Try reading Kafka on the Shore or Norwegian Wood. If you like those you will find the rest of his stuff okay or good. Some of his short stories collections are pretty good, but some are hit and miss as well.

If you want to read just to have something to talk with a girl about, I say go for it. It is not a waste of time reading Murakami. Good luck with the qt.

sad porn

>> No.18817492

i read this book when I had my first major outbreak of depression in my life at 15 and ready loved it and always read it when I was in school at an insanely slow pace (ADHD and not being good at my own "native" language) and now I'm reading this thread and getting really weirded out at people calling it a sad book.
Was it because I was depressed? Why don't I remember it being sad?

>> No.18817616

Genuinely love Murakami's work and Norwegian Wood was no exception. The chapters with Midori hit me the hardest because it's been a long time since I've felt that rush of romance with a new person in my life and when I read it I was desperately craving it, and in a way I still am.
