I've read the occasional philosopher here and there (and found a few interesting, including Weininger, Nietzsche, Michelstädter, Reich, Evola and others), but have never had a really solid knowledge of the field.

Recently I tried to get into it more seriously, but I'm just unable to do it.

>try to start with the Greeks and progress chronologically
>need to wade through endless stuff I don't give a shit about, like scholastics and Descartes

>try to read specific stuff that seems interesting, like Heidegger
>turns out I'm supposed to read all of Western philosophy untranslated to get it

>read something relevant to modern academia, like Deleuze
>it's hundreds of pages of fart-sniffing, only to get to some retarded inapplicable conclusion

>read this or that influential author
>find major flaws
>can't argue with the author himself, obviously
>he's super influential, so I have to either suck it up or discard a huge amount of other stuff

How do I get out of this? Am I doomed to stay forever a midwit?

Read a fucking textbook. And you seem like someone lacking cerebral tonus. If it feels useless, you are doing it wrong. Philosophy is by far the easiest thing that you can get that can change your own experience completely. You might also be depressed, consider doing therapy. That might also be the reason why you can't think properly.

You don't have the mind for it. Wait until reality beats some spirit into you or give up. It's probably not even your fault. 50 years of corporate advertising and corn syrup will do that to a mfer, and his progeny.

In addition to what the anon posted above, consider rubbing peepee once a week; ideally not at all.

I have actual sex fairly often and hardly ever jack off, so I doubt that's the issue here.

Your problem then is that you are surrounded by women and they are sapping your intelligence.

Start with the greeks is a meme. Start with what you're interested in, then read more of what you're interested, and basically if you're not interested don't bother. Simple as. If you're not interested then yeah there's no point

>> No.18809775

Just read a history of philosophy book that goes into why every philosopher is important, their main ideas and in an easily digestible format, then go deeper into the ones that you find interesting.

I have this problem, as well.

Why does it matter to you? If you don't find a use for philosophy, don't bother with it. It's that simple. Everything else in life works this way. It's not the end of the world if you weren't destined to be a big brain genius philosopher who will be remembered for thousands of years.

Hey man if you're not having fun or enjoying yourself then just do something else, not hard. You don't need to follow western canon down the line either, with the internet you can pick and go as you'd like. Whatever grabs your interest.
