It’s possible. The more writing you do the better you get at it. Just look at F. Gardner’s new books or Mike Ma’s new book. Gardner is a more extreme example since he’s written like 10 book by now. But I read Jigoku and it was significantly better than Call of the Crocodile. None of the old problem CotC had. The same applies to Mike Ma’s Gothic Violence when compared to Harassment Architecture. The point is that if you write a lot you will actually improve.

For the record, this is his most recent work:

>Bird Trouble
>Written By R.C. Waldun

>“You know what’s really crazy?” B and I got on the phone after I had read for a few hours. “This bird came into my bookshop once…”

>“Mhm.” My eyes wandered around my apartment and I was half engaged with the story. The bird reminded me that I used to breed zebra finches and those little bastards had a bunch of babies before the daddy bird kicked the bucket. So, I ended up with so many birds that my parents eventually sold them all off.

>“So, it just flew in one day and was trapped in the display window,” B continued, “There was an empty box in the display window, right? The bird hid under there so it looked like it was crushed. Which it wasn’t.”

>“And?” I was tuned in because a bird who pretended to be crushed under a box sounded interesting.

>“I had to close the store and called animal service. They wanted me to buy fruit. FRUIT! To lure it out. I tried everything. I tried a broom, tried a thing that played bird noises on my phone, everything… Then I had no choice but to run out and get a mango, only to find that I didn’t have anything to cut it with!”

>“Mhm!” At this point, I was excited. What could be better than a case of a trapped bird involving a broom, a mango, and idiots at animal service who conjured up such a ridiculous solution?

>“Luckily, my boss had this habit of leaving all his shit around so I found a butter knife under the counter. They had CCTV footage of me cutting up fruit pieces! When that was happening, people lined up at the counter to tell me there was a bird in the window. I was annoyed so I laid out a whole trail of fruit but it didn’t take the bait!”

>“And how did it get out in the end?” I leaned closer to the phone.

>“It just flew out eventually and my boss was literally downstairs the entire time! I told him: ‘hey, there was a bird in the window and it took me two hours to drive it out!’ and all he cared about was that I did all the shelving on time…”

>“It wasn’t like he could do anything about it,” I said, “A bird was trapped in the display window, for word’s sake.”

>“I don’t know? At least he could show me that he appreciated all that work I did? And yeah. It was a bird, for word’s sake.” B sighed.

So few people will admit that Gardner's latest is great compared to COTC. In fact, so few people want to admit improvement is even possible, because then it puts the responsibility back in your court to become a good writer. Can't have that...

It was really good too. I want to see it made

in this scene an anon asks, "Who is Waldun?", to which another, more learned, anon exclaims "My! You don't know?" and proceeds to give the following exposition:

> An Aussie chink who thinks he can think—a pseudo-intellectual;
> He is a dark academic twink—and a closet homosexual;
> he cannot write, his advice is trite, his dad is disappointed
> but regardless of all that he's now a /lit/ anointed!

> His English sucks, he rarely fucks, his books are ungrammatical
> and though he's Asian, he's too dumb for anything mathematical
> Nasally voiced, thinks he's Joyce, his pretentions are most grating
> and now beset, and most upset, of four-chan goons a-hating.

> But what his haters can't admit, I do confer it freely
> that he is charming and a wit, a genius he is, really!
> you'll be quite comfy and most pleased, as he goes on about his rambles
> and when l'académie is released, /lit/ fags will be in shambles!

> Chorus nvm, lol, on second thought, this doesn't fit with any thing else fuck:
> A Literary lolcow, who pretends that he knows how
> to write, but at first sight his works are quite unreadable
> but at least, you must admit, that he is highly Sneedable!

We got too cocky waldunchads....
In all seriousness, how can he be this bad? It's mind boggling! Even if he reads only 15% as much as he purports, he should have *some* sort of skill by now. This is actually kinda disheartening and saddening, because if he actually had been able to improve and grow as a writer, that would mean through hard work and dedication to the craft, even someone like Waldun could make it.
I refuse to believe it's because he's ESL, he speaks English fluently at this point.

aren't you permanently an ESL the moment that you learn English as a non-English speaker? Joseph Conrad is an ESL even though he was fluent, at least on a written level. It's not like you become an virgin again if you had sex before but then go 5 years without having sex

Well exactly, that's my point! I think at this point, he has enough of an understanding of the English language to be able to write proficiently in it. I think there's a good chance that he has an undiagnosed learning disability.

I think it's less of Waldun's understanding of English and more of the fact that he has two white, native English-speaking co-authors that will make L'Academie free of language errors
