I'm a racist fascist but I've been reluctant for a long time to read the Bell Curve and get into IQ and genetics based racism because I find genetic determinism depressing and disgusting, so I am probably similar to most normies in being resistant to reading it and can give you a sense of why they are like that. It's the simple fact that you are worried something horrible might be true and you would rather not face it.

I would rather do gymnastics in my mind about how race is something larger than the material than admit that certain living breathing people just lost the evolutionary lottery and are destined to be slaves or exterminated. If that's all that life is, there is no point in anything anyway.

I imagine normies feel that if racism is true, everything they know about reality would come crashing down. The core of their worldview is "be nice." IQ tests measure a mix of acquired knowledge and actual intelligence, sometimes leaning moreso towards the former, they're bullshit. Pure pattern recognition independent of acquired knowledge never takes a central role in IQ tests.

Though this is unrelated to IQ directly it's interesting with respect to intelligence:
I had the odd experience of meeting someone with seemingly low verbal intelligence and cognitive speed but with a huge breadth of knowledge and nuance to their thought. This guys point would take forever to be drawn out but it usually was insightful at its conclusion. This is contrary to most experiences I have with people who 'appear' intelligent which can be attributed their quick reactive nature and humor but who often don't (perhaps out of awareness of social cues) go very deep to make interesting points.

I think IQ is correlated to succes (but not even very strongly so as evident) because it has been adopted as a tool of the ownership class to categorize the kinds of instrumentalities deemed valuable within its specific system of value ordination. That is, someone with great math ability is deemed intelligent because most likely math will have a stronger economic utility than say verbal IQ and therefore those with a higher IQ are more likely to be richer thus more succesful because of the economic system it exists in and not necessarily because they are inherently smarter than most other people. Hence why great intellects within writing has almost grinted to a halt, there is no economic incentive to discover and utilize these kinds of talents as they do not fit the principle of mass applicance or production, which math always will because it can be easily translated into a profit motive. Writing cant, unless you want the talented writer to dumb themselves down. A mathematician never needs to dumb himself down because the end result will always be efficacy and effiiency of production; its merely the behind-the-stage- algorithm that portrays a more easily interepreted front-end design.

Intelligence is extremely complex and IQ tests that use arithemetic, memory and pattern recognition to extract it is doomed to merely express the current mode of production's preferred mode of abstraction
