Nobody uses the socratic method because its shit. It's just applied subversion. You don't need to have a perfectly concrete definition of a societal value or abstract concept for that thing to hold merit and to go around demanding people present one that meets your presupposed criteria for value is autistic. Socrates and his method has long, long been understood as a favorite of subversives and fifth columnists and isn't any more worth seriously engaging with than a five-year old repeatedly asking, "why?"

The Socratic method isn't figuring out definitions for words. Socrates would start with the idea (some sort of pre-existing definition) of a man and dialectically figure out what is actually essential to it, ultimately coming to the conclusion that the Good is what makes men what they are (ie possessing proper form over formlessness). Although for men and women specifically, there is the element of soul which is not directly related in itself to form or the Good.

I grew up in a rural area as well. It's has created quite a bit of cognitive dissonance. Hard work does pay off but it's unsustainable in the long run if you want to retain any level of humanity. My experience is hard work should only be done in sprints to achieve a higher goal. Once obtained, your goal as a filthy capitalist is to exploit those who are not aware of the former point. It's sad but true and I had to learn it the hard way. Constant hard work just allows people to take advantage of you.
