My favorite book is:
>War and Peace
because it doesn't seem like the best book you've ever read until after you have finished it, it is not about the journey, but the destination. So many huge things happening, and such a tapestry of characters. I read it only once, but it sticks with me after 10 years since I've read it.

It has melancholy, romance, tradition, and everything I am and struggle with.

I learned nothing, however.

Spring Snow is my favorite book. I don’t think I really learned a lesson or anything like that from it, though I guess it did strengthen my appreciation for beauty in nature, culture, etc. Maybe if I found it when I was younger it would have taught me not to be such an emotional self centered faggot in my teens but unfortunately I was 23 or 24 when I read it.

The Fuck-Up by Arthur Nersesian
Tremendous novel I discovered in high school that helped me understand how to look upon and process life's setbacks and outright getting screwed by circumstance, that surviving my own sins would be a fiery crucible which will never relent, and that the natural order of life is having one's world irreparably altered for the crimes of others, yet not permitting yourself to be completely destroyed by it all. It taught me that abject consequences unquestionably lie in wait for even the smallest misbehavior and that the utmost importance need be paid to living in a manner where you don't bring those punishments on yourself more than they will befall you already.

Anyone that reads for pleasure will have a favorite book. Anyone that chows down on books from some premade internet "list of based books" will never have a favorite book, nor really enjoy a book. He will constantly find the negatives in anything he reads and will spend more time caught up in the performative aspects of the hobby than actual introspection.
I'm glad I spent time reading, and decided to come here after that. It would definitely have ruined it otherwise.

War and Peace. I'm still thinking about it, and it's been years now. It's funny because as I was reading it I really thought it was kinda average, and unnecessarily long. And I can still barely rationalize why I enjoyed it so much, or why I connected with that group of people. But what it taught me, is that humans really are connected through shared experiences. Everyone who's living life will experience loss, experience joy and love. Love won't necessarily be some grandeur, over the top expression with insanely overwhelming feelings 24/7, but devotion, loyalty by someone most likely not perfect for you. That sense of duty towards your significant other is how you outlast couples only brought together by lowly emotions like lust and start a healthy family.
Similar to Tolstoy's view on how organized Church isn't really that loyal to Jesus and his teachings, but is mostly a self-serving entity.

Since War and Peace was already mentioned, The Bros K really hammered home some ideas of communality that I keep to this day. A shit ton of media (esp nowadays) talks about the importance of the individual — it's all good, TBK does it, too, but the latter compounds it with concepts of the communal in a way that both critiques and upholds either holon in their relationship with one another.

>>18757475
>it is not about the journey, but the destination
The fuck, how'? I'd argue that it's all about the 'journey', cause among other views, everything in the book points towards a philosophy that man is forever changing, and that a concept of a 'final product' can never be wholly relied upon or substantiated in full.

You probably do, but you need to unlock them and solidify them. Just try thinking about it before starting a new book. Ask yourself questions like

Life aspect: seek and create valuable things that no one else is seeking or creating. Read things that no one else is reading, to write things no one else is writing, and see things that no one else sees.
Business aspect: avoid any sort of competition at all costs because competition competes the profits away: all happy companies are different because escaped competition by doing something valuably unique; all unhappy companies are alike because they're too busy competing against each other. Begin with a small valuable market that no one else notices, and dominate that market—own monopoly over it so you may have the profits to further your own fascinating ideas that no one else is ithinking (because, by definition, no one is working towards it).
Social aspect: only work with fellow conspirators. Seek secrets that no one else is uncovering.
Political aspect: politics is to be avoided because the crowd, and certainly politicians, don't want what's best for you—and instead does what's best for its own status quo, which is to own you and have you own nothing.
