I'm not sure how Jackson's trilogy did any damage to the legacy of the books. They were a great spectacle and solid action films and in some respects quite faithful to the books. I much prefer the books but I enjoy the films as well.

Films are great improvement. Jackson cuts most of the tedious, prolix sludge. Those books have very little literary value and have nothing to offer anyone over 25.

The films alternate between cringe and pretty good scene-to-scene. It's amazing. One scene is bringing a part of the book to life, then in the the next a much-loved character is acting like a bumbling tard to be relatable to reddit types

Who cares what they do with movie/tv adaptions and Tolkien society conferences.
