No you're not nutso. Every day it's now the catalogue just feels like an endless variation on different themes:
>/pol/bait threads
>incel threads
>religitard threads
>twitter personalities
>doomer threads

And occasionally a decent thread or two

First month embryo develops--small limbs on all fours, suspended in emniotic fluids, looks like a lamb. Third month a full size one, the machine bends the growing flesh into the desired shapes. Age does not truly mean anything except change now.

This one was a new age, an era. The prototypes finished, the most expensive bio-product ever produced. Not the extinct dodo, not the fluttering dinosaurs, a human. Whose soul would this fleshy carcass inhabit? Would the natural emotions produce or connect an actual soul?

The desired range for a human body varies. Some preferred older age, all have a longing for youth. Fifteen, as it were, was decided a good age for a girl. This girl was half machine, half lamb.

Ty, something simple, a mod at a thank you, the name for the development. Psychology had recently become much more evolved in the mind of people, as animals seemed to develop all natiral response in this state... The most bionic a machine could be, the most a body could be without being machine, running on a program...

Spinning the gears, rolling the eyes back in an epillectic fit, twitching on a table as the microscopes point a camera at the eyes. Not for worry of health, not for a disease if it were present, to know what color or daughter's eyes would be. Humanity had birthed a human.

The blue was met with its first sight, a shocking gasp and a hand over a mouth, the instrument in the hand of a figure in a full hazard suit.

She flexed her biceps and clenched her teeth in the wretching at being pinned down by this cloth, she felt a rush and dozed off as the medicine sent her home. She was in a hospital bed, fifteen and today.

Today, awake, she sees the video of her birth. Perplexed at her crying, the fellow humans feel an old pain. Is this the end of this cunning work, a confused woman? Did we create a prison for her?

She feels her import in the room. The human vibrations hit her in the sense you all neglect, thwomp. She knows it is now a duty for her to collect herself, to be more human than human.

The problem with boards like /lit/ (so any slower board that constantly attracts offsite visitors) is that people seem to make a thread for any stupid bullshit. This results in 99% of the threads dying out below 50 replies and no actual discussion taking place.

Look at the catalog now. The only threads above 100 reply's are the writing generals. Its the same on /mu/ where the only popular threads are generals and everything else dies at 10 replies.
Now look at /a/ for example. There are no generals and many threads reach bump limit. This is partly due to the speed of the board, but also in part that it isnt full of tourists who spam new threads endlessly.

There are ways to fix this (restriction on creating threads), but I doubt anything will ever be done.

Yeah. Its an attempt by some faggoty egg-heads from some stuffy colleges in the UK and the US to try to innundate the chans with irrelevant, boring and cringe-inducing threads to break up their user bases and to try to diminish their influence on internet culture and irl. This is why we cannot have nice things

/a/ has an advantage of having consistent weekly releases and series' to mobilise and organise discussion around. With /lit/, once you leave a few classics, it's rare to have anyone to discuss the book with because no one else has read it. In lieu of having books held in common to discuss, it resolves to the same few classics or general/off topic threads that don't require any prior knowledge.
I do agree that /lit/ has a weaker board culture and it's posters less propriety than /a/, however.

Sadly 4chan is the most obvious example of why the open internet failed
It only works while the entry barrier is fairly high and everyone understands and shares the basic fundamentals of how it works and what it's for
Once the barrier gets sufficiently low anonymity just becomes unaccountability, so the signal to noise ration becomes all noise

Fair point. Perhaps literature discussion is forever doomed on 4chan duet to the nature of reading. It takes a long time to read a book and a longer time to discuss it with others. I guess the best sort of internet discussion would be like the old school forums where you could have a thread for every book or author and people could drop in whenever they finish. I wonder if any such forums exist?
