Sartre wrote in 'les Mots' about the virtual readers people have in mind when writing - how this Idea impacts your work. Why does it even matter if men don't read your prose? The only genuinely great books by women are:

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers

Otherwise they don't seem to be interested in working as hard as men to write something truly great and longlasting rather than just writing whatever can be enjoyed by the lowest common denominator of women.
